LT4 hotcam kit worth it?
LT4 hotcam kit worth it?
I upgraded my whole exhaust, intake, 4.10 gears and suspension and decided to go and get a cam. I saw a lot of people with the LT4 hotcam kit and was just wondering is it worth it. I use my car as a daily driver and just want something that is more aggressive and runs stronger. I have a 96 Z28 and should i get the kit or wait or something else to spend my money on?
Its a good kit i would say, I am running it in my 87 Iroc LT1. Very streetable, and has a nice idle to it. I however am thinking up upgrading to the GM847, as I already have ported heads and intake.

i have it and i love it. i chose it mainly because its a daily driver as well, and the engine has 112k+ miles. it is also good because it comes with almost everything you need (you still might want to replace more while you're in there). i felt a very good gain (no track times or dyno) and it has a real nice lope. if i had a newer motor i might have went with something bigger though... but still i'm very satisfied with my decision.
I honestly don't know what all comes in the HotCam Kit. However, you can assemble your own kit with a bit more specificity and it may not cost you that much more.
Select a cam that will provide you the type of power and drivability you expect to be doing. Select your valve train to accommodate the specs of the cam, including non-sa RRs, dual springs, gmp quide plates and hardened push rods.
Consider a CAI to improve your intake and headers to improve your exhaust system.
Purchasing your components for your custom setup can be done by ordering all the components from the same vendor, e.g., Summit, Thunder Racing, thereby having only one S&H cost. The main thing is to put your setup together by using the experience of those on this site and getting the best parts.
With a good clean cam install and the best valve train components together with a good tune should get you to where you want to be.
Note: nothing wrong at all with the Hot Cam kit, just providing you with an option. JMHO
