LT4 hotcam kit shift points?

When I was giving someone a ride in my car today the tach almost pegged out when it shifted it looked to be over 6500 rpm. I had pcm4less program it and was gonna call them to see what they put in for the shift points, I just don't want to break anything. So what are you guys shifting at?

I plan on setting mine at 6500 when I do the hotcam. I think it's safer with a 4 bolt main, but I've seen several peeps do 6500 with a 2 bolt. Also keep in mind that the stock tach can be a bit enthusiastic. Mine is 200 RPM too high. Autotap reported my idle at ~800, but the tach shows 1000.

How does she run after the cam?

Car runs great. I love launching it, its a great feeling to be thrown in the back of your seat from the take off. Its something that a honda just doesn't have .

Im pretty sure mine shifts around 6300 with the hot cam kit and a pcmforless tune. Im goin to a dyno next season so that i can figure out what my numbers are and to see if they can lean it out a little bit because its runnin a little too rich for my blood.

I set mine at 6100 RPM from first to second and 5900 second to third cause of tranny problems.

I had PCMforless set mine to 6200, and probably could have had it a little higher and been fine. My stock tach also ready high, it would indicate 65-6600 on the shift.

I just bought a hotcam kit and hopefully will get time to throw it in soon, i wanted to ask, how many miles do you guys have on your cars? I've got 115k and i'm thinking about rebuilding the motor cause i dont wanna spin a rod bearing or something like many have done soon after a cam swap. Also, do the stock LT1 valve covers fit over the 1.6RR's or did you have to modify them a little?

Ed Wright claimed 6500 was best. My car ran a 13.0 at 109 with the hot cam and shorties, no stall and 4.10's and his tune in AZ

I had about the same mileage. I rebuilt mine, but I also had blown headgaskets. I thought it was a good idea to do it because the motor was out of the car, and I knew I was gonna be ptting some more power to it. The valve covers fit fine and needed nothing.

I put my cam in at 91,000 and I now have 103,000 on it. If your motor is strong and and in overall good condition just put the cam in. I am willing to bet that at least 75% of people who have put cam's in their LT1 did not spin a bearing. Just take your time and double check everything.

Re: LT4 hotcam kit shift points?

ive got a little over 60k and just put it in last winter while she was in storage. The 1.6rr's fit fine under the valve covers. No modification needed.

My times still suck because of traction issues... im still stuck at 13.3 with all my mods, but i also have 2.73 gears. So if i ditch those and get some new shocks... i should be good to go.
