Having the 224/230 on a 112* LSA, my motor is whisper quiet, and I have Pro Mag Self Aligning rockers too. I get NO noise from it.

This cam will pass on a 112* LSA, you just need to make sure you've got a good tune. I've seen/heard of several people passing with it.

As qckz28 said, my results are in the sig.. 12.0's on bone stock heads, full weight.

This is one of the best mild-mannered cams, hands down. I'm not a personal fan of the cc305 or the cc306 anymore to be honest.. I like the aggresive ramps of the XE series.

I'll be putting NSA Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers on there...I don't know if that means it will be quiet or loud...? Either way, with teh XE 503 224/230 cam with stock heads, I should be making some good power. It sure will cost some money, but I think it will be worth it. I guess I'll just have to worry about the emissions when it comes to me. What you guys are saying though, it should pass. This cam is 112, and so is the hot cam, and the two cams are very close to eachother. So I think I should be all set. I'll still have the dual cat setup and all air fittings on my Hooker headers.....

Why haven't you considered the 230/236 cam? It doesn't have nearly the split in duration as the 224/236.

Oh I'm considering the 230/236 cam too, but I just dont know how much of a difference in power they will make. Its definitely down to the 224/230 and the 230/236. I just need to make sure I can pass emissions and have a relatively good street car that doesnt get 3 mpg. Tell me how much of a difference I would get between the 224/230 and the 230/236 performance and sound-wise.

Have you heard an XE grind and also the Hotcam? How do they compare as far as underhood noise goes?

If I'm worried about noise, should I go with the CC305 instead since it uses more traditional ramp rates? From the dyno curves I've seen, they are putting down almost identical numbers.
I won't be nearly as loud as a solid roller. You probably won't even hear the difference between XE and traditional lobes, but it's there.

Anyone else have an opinion for me between the XE 224/230 and the XE 230/236? I must consider driveability and emissions when I make my decision. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, if emissions and passing is a consideration, stick to the 224/230 or CC305 or Hotcam. You're not gonna get a 230/236 to pass.

Well okay, the XE 224/230, it is then. I cant thank you guys for all the help you've given me with all these decisions. I've looked at about 8 different cams for my car, and the XE 224/230 is the one I'm lookin for I think. With my bolt ons, plus the 224/230 cam, plus pushrods, 1.6 RR's, and hydraulic lifters, I should be making some good power right? Anyone able to give me a decent estimate about what my rwhp could potentially be?

Probably 320-340 if everything is in good order.

One question though?? Are you planning on eventually getting ported heads or not?? If not, the 218/224 may be a better choice. There's a couple of people here who have that and bolt-ons and dynoed approx 343/343 RWHP/TQ with a great powerband.

I agree that the XE218/224 is a great cam for stock heads. That will be the cam I'm getting, and I've analyzed every dyno curve I've come across for the Hotcam, CC305, XE224/230 and the XE 218/224 with headers and stock heads.

The XE218/224 with mid length headers puts the power band in the perfect spot in my opinion. The CC305 is a close second, but I like the XE grind better. It's hard to beat 343 HP/343 TQ with mid length headers and stock heads.

I guess you can't go too wrong with the 224/230, but it's puts the powerband a little too high for me, and a couple other things will be a little worse than the XE218/224, such as gas milage and low end TQ will be a little worse.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it doesn't confuse you further.

Do you have to get a tune if you go with the hotcam?

This is a great post, lots of useful information, i am considering putting a cam in my car, i had been leaning towards the hotcam mainly due to cost issues, being able to get everything less gaskets for $450 was pretty appealing but i have heard great reviews of the XE cams. After reading this post i am weighing whether to go with the 224/230 or 218/224. I would love to hear of a comparision between those two, pros/cons, i as well am sticking with the stock heads and the mods below. Thanks.

There are plenty members running Hot cams and 305s with the stock tune. Just remember it will run even better when the ecm is tunned for the cam.

MAN! Just when I think I know what cam I'm gonna use you guys give me something else to think about. I really need to load all these cams into my laptop dyno program and see how they look.
