LT4 Hot cam question

I have a basicaly stock 94 LT1. Would an LT4 Hot cam be good for me? I seen it on gmpartsdirect.com, but it was the cam only.

Could I just change the cam or do I need to change all the other stuff as well? Is there a kit for it?

thanks...

If you do not have a CAI or cat back yet start there. The Hot cam is good for a daily driver as it is a mellow cam.You really should get the kit ( http://www.samtaylor.com/html/parts.html is where I got mine cheap shipping) as you need new springs for the lift of the cam.You will also need a stall converter (if auto) , headers , timing chain , gaskets and a computer tune. You will end up spending around $2000.00 or so(less if buy some stuff used) for everything you need if you do it all at once.

I have 2800 stall on order. Since I have a Firehawk, I already have a CAI and cat back.

Would the LT4 cam require tuning?

You need the hotcam kit for around $500. You need bigger springs for the increased cam lift & you should get 1.6 RR's while you have it apart.

You won't get as much HP without a good exhaust, and the tune will complete it....

Put some headers on, then think about the cam. Open up the exhaust as much as you can first. Not much point in putting a cam on a motor with exhaust manifolds I think. I would buy the cam kit instead of the bare cam though b/c it comes with 1.6 RR, valve springs, and the cam. Good luck.

If I were you I would first get a set of good headers. You will probably see just as much of a gain from them as you will from the cam kit with out headers. (if that makes sense) Also, once you do get the hotcam kit, you dont need to have tunning but its worth it, you will get a huge power increase and better mpg. On my '94 after the hotcam kit i only ran 13.72@103. I only picked up one tenth and 1 mph. After tunning I went 13.16@107, although it was better racing weather that day.
