LT4 Hot Cam, 1.6 rr, pcmforless, still running stock time?!?!?!

I ran a best 9.324 when my car was factory, with a beat up cam, beat up lifters, map sensor bad, and intake leak, in 70 degree weather. With just the hotcam, new lifters, new map, intake leak fixed, 1.6 rr, and NO tuning, I ran a best of 9.385 in 70 degree weather. Tonight, with underdrive crank pulley and tuning, and a VERY noticeable seat of the pants difference, I ran a best of 9.327 in 36 degree weather. Why is my car not improving? I know I need gears, and stall, but regardless, there should be some improvement.

60' was a 2.11 on the 9.327 i think. My best was a 2.097 last summer.

My slower runs tonight were due to lots of spin, but the 9.327 run didn't spin much. Maybe I didn't notice because I was watching my tach.

for the horsepower you have gained, like maybe 30, those are not bad times.. 2.73's are killing it and you need a stall but then again you already knew that..

I know those are good times, but those are slower times than when it was all messed up with stock parts. I'm not expecting 8s or anything, just a 9.2 or better. 2.73s are a problem though. On the highway, and at the high end, it is significantly meaner, but from a stop it just isn't improving.

First off, the time is your doing, not your cars.

What MPH are you running and were you running?

When looking for HP increase, you should look at the car's speed through the traps, not the time to get there. The time can be affected by too many things like launch and spinning, but the MPH will be generally consistent regardless of the launch.

my car is fairly stock except for all the free mods possible, and the stall(2800) and shift kit...

i can run 8.9's all night long, with tire spin.

and i have 2.73 gears too!

it is about 90 degree weather and very humid weather here also...

but i guess like they say, some just run better than others?

IMO...and like you said, you will see great improvements with the stall and gears! im doing 3.73 in the feature.

that is all,
steve

You need tuning. Have you had it tuned? I was just reading a post today about how you can gain good HP with a good tune on the Hotcam.

It needs tuned. Good tuning means a lot to these cars. Also, no offense...but you are 270lbs. That is a another tenth or two slower than someone like me that is only 150lbs. Plus...those gears suck *** for anything but cruising at 140mph.

Yes, I bought tuning from pcmforless, and the SOTP difference was night and day, but I still ran a 9.3, the same time before tuning.

I was 270 when the car was factory.

But after making this post I forgot one important thing, with 2.73s, and the car shifting at like 6200 rpms, im not hitting 3rd until I cross the line. Gears are required to fully augment the new cam and tuning.

So gears are now in my immediate future. Thanks for the input. Oh, and 2.73s DON"T SUCK ***!!!!!!!! (Ok, so not with a cam)

Those gears, with a beat up cam, beat up lifters, and leaking intake, propelled 270 lbs of ugly to a 9.3, which was .1-.2 faster than other A4 cars with 3.23s, with skinny drivers.

well you said that your 60' time was worse than last year. losing a little in the 60' can have a big change on the overall et
