Lt4 Conversion Questions

For those who apply,
I'd like to rebuild using the GMPP LT4 kit as the main part of my rebuilt here shortly.
For those of you who may have done this, can you recommend it as a good rebuild vice a 383 buildup or anything similar.
Also, does anyone see the claimed 425 HP that GMPP advertizes?
BTW-What can anyone tell me about how a scanmaster can help my '95 and if the LT4 KM is a good mod for me?
Thanks in advnce,
Ivan

Theres many more options that are actually cheaper and will yield you more power....give Lloyld Elliot a try...he can give you an inexpensive heads and cam that will give u way more then a LT4 kit...btw, the kit your talkin about doesnt give you that much power..way overrated

Re: Lt4 Conversion Questions

there was someone who posted their results the other day, do a search you should find it. im wanting to say he got about 350 at the wheels, which would be what, about 405 at the motor? I agree with the guy above me though, much more power can be had for the same price as this kit, but, the kit comes with everything you need, altogether, so the decision is yours

Re: Lt4 Conversion Questions

If it were me I'd get a set of ported LT4 heads and intake matched and get a much better cam. Now youre talking closer to 400 rwhp with a 355.

The cam I would recomend would be the CC306 (if standard), XE 230/236, the GM 847,or a custom cam from the guys that regularly do LT1s around here, like LLoyd elliot.

Remember Heads is where you want to spend your money, you can have a really nice cam ,but with poor heads the power will be lacking. Hence the ported LT4s I recommend.

For the bottom end, I would upgrade to a cast steel crank(scat or eagle), ARP rod bolts (after rods are magged and fitted for floating pins), Some nice forged pistons with floating pins.

Check out AI head porting and cams also. They do some incredible work. A guy from our local club was putting down like 400 to the wheels with his 355. AI ported the heads and put in a custom cam. Might wanna check them out.

Men,
Thanks be to all who answered..that's what I needed to hear.

I appreciate the replies. Ported Heads will definitely be the way I'm heading.

I also recommend going with AI stuff. You get what you pay for. I also loved their customer service. Phil is the man. Especially if you get LT4 heads and want them ported you have to go to AI.

Re: Lt4 Conversion Questions

Great info guys.

About the Scanmaster tool. I've been to their new website and seen that you can buy the standalone tool for $249. I know that I can pull codes and monitor certain systems, but can you actually do any tuning of any kind or am I better off pulling the ECM and shipping it to someone for reprogramming? I would like to be able to change the program as I continue building. I'd hate to have to keep changing the program to get the most out of the engine anytime I add parts.

Thoughts?

Thanks again,
Ivan
