LT4 conversion

Has anyone ever done the LT1 to LT4 conversion kit that can be bought in summit? It comes with heads, intake, 1.6 rockers, and LT4 hot cam. I have heard it makes great power but I was more concerned about emissions. And by the way this would be going into a 89 third gen. I know that there will have to be some computer updates with this also. Any input would be apreciated.

This kit doesn't come with the heads but you could have yours done and save some money... Check it out...

The LT4 Conversion, includes the LT4 heads, the LT4 intake, the Hotcam, rockers, etc... And usually makes in the neighborhood of 400-425 flywheel horsepower when tuned. The intake flows better than the LT1 stock intake, due to raised runners to the heads, the stock LT4 heads flow better than stock LT1 heads.

The conversion is a proven kit that works.

The Hotcam kit that you mentioned doesn't include the heads or intake, or any of the other parts needed to do the conversion. All it includes is the cam, rockers, springs, etc...

I just recently bought the LT-4 conversion kit from Scoggin Dickey for $2040.00...... It came with the heads, 1.6 rr's, intake, and the cam, head gaskets, intake gaskets, and timing cover gasket. I installed it myself and wow I love the way it sounds......I installed it on a 95 Z28 convertible M6. Its down now because I'm having one hell of a time getting the rockers adjusted...... I had programing e-mailed to me from PCMforless for $50.00 and istallled it myself.. I didn't know anything other than how to change external parts before i did this time consuming job but it was well worth it......and with the help of this board I DID IT. I drove it for about 30 miles allowing the new valves to set in good and now i'm re-adjusting the rockers again........ .........I had a buddy help me the first time and now i'm doing it myself....I'm still using my stock manifolds and it realy sounds great.... I pulled up next to a buddy's 00 Z with the same exaust set up and his sounded like a Toyota next to mine......LOL....... Hope this info helps........

Thanks for all the input but I already know what it comes with. My real question was about emissions. Has anyone had experience with this setup and having to pass emissions? It is a good package and makes alot of power but if it cant pass emissions then that will cause problems.

It's basically identical to the LT1 design but with better flowing heads, intake, and a better cam and stronger timing chain setup. Your LT1 exhaust system (headers or manifolds) will bolt right up to the LT4 heads without a problem. As long as you keep cats and the EGR/AIR system you'll pass emissions just as you would with your LT1.

With the proper tune and cats you should pass emissions fine.

Hold on.... are you asking:

1) can I put an LT4 conversion kit, including heads and intake, on a 3rd Gen small block Chevy engine?

Answer = No, unless you have big $$$ to weld up the cooling passages in the heads, and drill new ones to match the earlier Gen 1 SBC, and then adapt the LT4 intake to the coolant connections that exist on a Gen 1 SBC intake. Oh... and then drill the hole for the distributor and fabricate a spacer.

or are you asking:

2) I have an LT1 in my 3rd Gen, and want to know if the LT4 heads and intake will fit on it?

Anwer = Yes.

No, I dont even have it yet but...... I was going to buy an lt1 put the lt4 conversion on it then drop it in. I know it will work but..... I was more concerned about EMISSIONS. Does anyone have any experience with putting this set up through emissions?

I've have seen more than one car with the LT4 conversion and LT4 hotcam that have passed emissions without any problems. The LT4 setup is by no means a radical setup, hell it was packaged in the Corvette and a few Camaros & Firehawks in the mid '90s. Again, just make sure you run one or more catalytic converters and have the PCM tuned for your setup.

Thank you for your input. I had heard from a guy I work with that he had a friend with this set up had a hard time with emissions. But I wanted to get some more input before.

lt4 conversion is not worth the money have the stock castings ported and get a larger cam that the hot cam (that will pass emisions) and make more power for cheaper with better flowing heads than stock lt4 cast.

it is an improvment on the lt1 but far as money goes it could be better spent than on a lt4 conversion

Hmmm $2000 aprox. sounds pretty good for aluminum heads, intake, cam, and lifters. Plus all the seals and gaskets. And 425 horsepower?
