This subject hos been WIDELY debated on this board, especially recently with Summit Racing now carrying the kit.

Doing a search will turn up all the info ur looking for.

its taken me about 10-12 hrs of SOLID work to remove my whole top end

(heads, cam, intake, headers)

i'm guessing another 10 to put it back on. My knuckles are bleeding as is my arm and i smell like i fell in a gasoline tank. its fun for about an hour.

for that price and that much headache why not go with ported heads and a bigger cam so you can enjoy the gains for a while.

Angry i want it bad

LT4 is the epitome of all!!!!!!! i want this conversion kit so bad because of the increased horesepower numbers. this kit gives 425+ horsepower to a LT1, This is not 425 though obviously it is 283-425 which equals its about 132 horespower. that is a awsome a mount of hp for a LT1 i have many bolt ons and nitrous and i believe this kit would put me in the low low 11's this kit is awesome. the time and money in my mind is well worth the play. In my mind YOU GOT TO PAY TO PLAY! Lt4 is in summit for about 2,900 dollars a little pricey but worth it i have doubts about this because of the cost but it would be a no brainer upgrade if i had the money. in my mind every LT1 should have this kit

why is that the kit for all LT1's? Why not buy some good ported heads that will kill stock LT4 heads in flow for about 1000-1500 or so. Then you can get all the parts for a bigger cam than the LT4 hot cam for about 750 so for about 2250 you can get all the parts to kill a LT4 kit.
Better heads and bigger cam > LT4 conversion

sorry to break yr heart but that kit wont make 425 hp.. maybe flywheel hp. factoring in a conservative 15% drivetrain loss you are looking at around 360rwhp but even that seems a bit excessive. dont believe any of the bs you read in magazines or you will be like many of us who have wasted lots of hard earned cash on useless mods.

If you put a little thinking into your set up.You can make a lot more power for a lot less money. It is a proven fact.

The good thing about the LT4 conversion kit is that it is made by Chevy and you know that it is going to be a perfect fit if you know what you are doing. I am pretty sure Chevy engineers have put a lot of thought into making these heads as well, so I am pretty sure you will see some decent gains. Probably not 425fwhp though, with a little porting and bigger valves, 425fwhp could be achieved. But the downside is, it is expensive as hell.
A buddy of mine was telling me that it is not the parts, but the "right combination of parts" that will make the difference. That is absolutely true. This same guy had the AFR 190 heads with a custom cam, and he said he didn't like the results at all. But then, there are many people on this board who have seen huge gains with the right combination of AFR heads and a cam.
So you can get the LT4 conversion, and have the piece of mind when you use it with the HotCam because as I said, I am pretty sure Chevy engineers have enough tests on that combo to know that it works well. Or you could try the AFR heads, and see what happens. Just my opinion.

I've seen the kit put down 350rwhp before, and I plan on CNCing the heads and changing valves anyway before installation anyway.
I figure i'd get it around 350rwhp give or take some.

PS - has anyone had any bottomend trouble with the kit?
ex. pistons, rods, etc

well if this is a daily driver and not a serious drag car i would recommend it. I did the hot cam kit with stock ported heads and i rana 12.9 with bad tuning this past friday, so it will be better then stock and for the money the kit comes with everything you need. If you want serious power and want to spend a little more then look into a bigger cam but you have to get rockers and springs and heads and in my opinion you will spend more but get more. Also after the kit i got new rear gears and i'm playing with ZO6s, now so........

$$$$2900.00$$$$$

Thats crazy.......I just bought my LT-4 conversion kit from Scoggindickey out of Texas and paid $2060.00. That includes the shipping........ FYI that did not include the throttle body for that intake and it did not include a new timeing chain.........it did come with the gaskets, heads, intake, hot cam and ARP head bolts..... not done putting it in yet ....but i'm hopeful for around 60+ HP....
