I have edlebrock emissions headers on my 1996 impala ss and I seem to be burning the side of the driver side lt4 composite cover, I've tried to find someone with a similar problem but to no avail. Has this happened to any of you? Also what is a good solution/replacement cover for 1.6 RR clearance?

The stock steel valve covers will fit most 1.6RR's with minor crimping of the centerbolt gussets.

 

The shop tried to do that initially, but said it was too tight, so I guess I have to find another aftermarket taller metal cover, thanks for the input as always!

 

Which rockers are you using?

 

my vette's valve covers never seal properly..

 

Mine do, but the gaskets are crazy. Sometimes they grow too long when the valve covers are off then they poke out of the groove and are hard to get back on.

The OP might have issues with rocker/valve cover fitment since his heads aren't stock - I never did with either valve covers - steel or composite with stok or AFR heads, but he has TFS, so not sure about those.

I hate the way the 96-97 dual cat headers are configured. They are just terrible sticking way up like that. If at all possible, it would be best to just get earlier style headers.

 

mine cleared pro mags without issue on my stock lt4 heads.. but the gaskets are the suxxor

You might be right about the diff. style headers....I do have the trick flow heads, so maybe thats where my fitment issue stems from, the lt4 covers do no leak from the seals at all, but the side is starting to crack from all the heat. The other problem is I don't know if I can get a replacement lt4 composite cover anymore.

 

Proform makes a good cover. I run the 141-131, also available in polished or chrome 141-130.

 

Will those fit Lt-1 heads? the Jegs site says they won't. Just checking to see if you're running an Lt-1 or not.

 

Yes, it's an LT1 out of a 1993 Z/28. I did have to grind a small spot on back of th alt. to make them fit.

 

They covers you suggested showed up yesterday, although I won't be able to put them on till later, I'll let you all know how they fit.

 

So what parts of the underwide of the valve covers do I have to modify for 1.6 pro-mags?

I have stock valve covers. and stock ported heads.

 

What are you referring to? The LT4 composite covers will fit without doing anything to them I have 1.6RR on right now and have no issues. Are you talking about the new Proform covers? The clearance/modding they are referring to is the outside part, where the pass. side cover meets the alternator.

*Disregard if you are talking about the stock steal covers, they require the wider part of the webbing arch to be shaved down/bent over. If I find the links to this I'll post it, otherwise I'm sure you can find it using the search.
