how much do you think it would cost to put an lt4 hot cam in my car with all supporting mods. engine is stock. I will do the work by myself.

 

If you do the work by yourself, it wouldn't be too bad. The kit is in the $500-600 range I believe, then you need the pertinent gaskets and what not.

 

Well the Hotcam kit comes with cam, springs, rockers retainers etc..($480-500) so you would only need headers($400),converter(400-500) and a mailorder tune ($75)would get you going. You would also need plugs, wires and gaskets but those are a given. I would think you go do it yourself for under 2 grand with the Hotcam kit and all. Goodluck Later

 

either way Cam, Supporting springs and retainers and locks, head gaskets,( your that close do them besides its easier to change out valve components with the heads off!) intake gaskets, header gaskets, (unless you have copper!), also you will need new lifters.
I don't remember how much the kit is but if your doing all the work you could get it done for probably under 1,000 - probably less. If your planning to do more than go with some 1.6:1 roller tip roller rockers. It wakes the cam up a little more. around 250- 300 for a good set.

okay maybe the hotcam isn't for me. basically I want more power. Needs to be streetable, and pass emissions. I want a somewhat choppy, bad *** sound.

I dont really have a goal. I probably won't take it to the track very much, I just want it to be more fun to drive. Also, I dont want something that i'm going to have to rev realllly high.

Huh? An LT4 Hotcam is not an aftermarket cam...it's GM.

Second, the LT1 does not require any internal engine modifications for the LT4 cam. About all that is recommended is springs. The 1.6 roller rockers aren't even required...recommended, yes.


You can install the cam and go cheap without any other mods. You will probably only realize 50% of the potential though....and have to watch the springs as they will be close to bind.

As for choppy...choppy will result in failed emissions, at least here in NJ. Be careful with that...a little bit of lope is doable.

 

That's not what "supporting mods" means to most people around here.

Sounds like you just want to know what parts are needed to install the hot cam so it functions properly. The answer is - the hot cam kit.

With your headers plus hot cam a mail order tune would be a good idea, but not mandatory.

If your car has high mileage then it might be smart to look at other things like lifters along with the cam.

I dyno'ed 335hp/347lbs with my current mods.

I installed mine myself, cam swaps are not that difficult. Price was like everyone else said $500-$600 for the cam kit, then another so much for gaskets, timing chain (not required but recommend to change), and little things here and there. Ie: Oil, coolant, RTV and so on.

 

well I want to save money putting it in myself. but I honestly dont know how to do it at all.

When you say cost, are you doing the work yourself? Or are you talking about a garage performing the swap?
