Lt1 waterpump fitting question

Does anyone know how the 90 degree ~5/8" tubes coming out of the water pump are installed into the water pump? I need to move one as it is getting in the way of a vacuum pump belt. Are these threaded pipe fittings or pressed in? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks and kind regards,
Matt

They are pressed in. You might be able to twist it to another position and it not leak.

Ah dammit! I figured that would be the case. I will probably try to remove the fitting, thread the water pump and replace it with a pipe thread fitting. Thanks for the quick response! much appreciated.

Did that work? Were you able to install a pipe thread fitting?

I don't see why not. Other people have.

This is the first I'm hearing of this mod. I didn't realize it was a common thing to do.

I was able to turn it a little bit with a wooden dowl. Those things are in there really really tight. I have not seen it if it leaked yet but I would guess, no as tight as they are.

I plugged my WP port with 1/2" npt. I would recommend use of a straight thread npt tap since there are water jackets behind the port (hard to get enough thread with a tapered tap since it is long). I used a small file and drilled the stock fitting out. Those stock fittings are mechanically swaged in the WP. I also run a Vac pump (crank drive). 97ss. B.

Use proper size rachet extension and move where you like...
