Lt1 vs lt4 heads

Ok well here the ?.I m very soon about to have my set of stock lt1 heads ported. The guy is a pertty good porter and said he will fully port them as he said race port them. And also add new vavle seats and new vavles and bigger vavles. He is callin for very low flat 12's with these heads and the right cam with 3200 stall and 3.42 gears.Im going to pay 1500 also havin the intake port matched and the TB bored. Now the ? is how much will these heads outprofrom a Lt4 head with a lil work done to them maybe bigger vavles and lil other stuff done.Or or will that at any.I m wonder if i should just start wiith the lt4 heads and scrap the lt1 portin idea. Also will be runing the heads on a stock bore rebuilt lt1

Re: Lt1 vs lt4 heads

Here's a thread that may interest you. BTW, I have these heads and cam now, but not yet installed on a stock short block LT1.

As you can see the LT1 castings can be ported out to outperform even the perforance LT4 heads with the right setup. So if your porter knows whats he's doing, the LT1 heads can work very well, especially since you already have them instead of spending mega $$ on a set of LT4s and having to port them as well. If in doubt about the porters abilility to get your LT1s to flow these #s, contact Lloyd Elliot, he's in the thread posted above.

You might consider having Lloyd Elliott port you heads. He's done many hundreds of them. Visit his site:

Check out his LE1, LE2 and LE3 head + cam packages.
