LT1 vs. LS1 sound
Re: LT1 vs. LS1 sound
An LS1 has an aluminum block with aluminum heads. The LT1 has an iron block and aluminum heads. The aluminum block in the LS1 creates more of a hollow and raspier sound in my opinion.

Re: LT1 vs. LS1 sound
All the LS1s I have heard sound alright, but there is this one guy that has got this sweet '01 SS. It's black on black, 18'' torque thrust wheels, it is sweet. It only has exhaust on it. I'm sure it is pretty fast. But it sounds like a freakin' logging truck. One of my friends who is on this board has got a LT1 with SLP exhaust and a magnaflow muffler. I don't know it just sounds beefier, and not like noise like this guy's I'm talking about. But you are probably right it is probably just opinion.
Re: LT1 vs. LS1 sound
LT1 firing order is different(sounds more like a sbc), LT1 does sound better but the LS1 isnt too shabby...this has been posted 8 billion times through out the years ...do a search
Re: LT1 vs. LS1 sound
LT1 seems to always sound better to me. A cammed LT1 vs a cammed LS1 is no competition IMO. LT1 is a cast iron block, LS1 is an aluminum
This is has been used before to explain the exact same concept.
Take a cast iron frying pan and hit it with a spoon. Then hit an aluminum pan and listen. The cast iron sounds much deeper. ***disclaimer*** Don't hit your Teflon pans with metal spoons

Re: LT1 vs. LS1 sound
It's a completely different SBC motor...
Different firing order, camshaft, cylinder heads, compression ratio, block material, etc...
BTW, same exhaust for exhaust, I agree that any LT1 set-up sounds better than any LS1. Just deeper and throatier...
However, my LS1 with the GMMG cat-back and LT headers w/highflow cats sounds much better than several LT1's I've heard.
You'd be surprised at how "deep" and "muscular" this combo sounds on my car...

Bingo! ( to anyone who said firing order) We have winners . The real (main reason) is the firing order. That's why mustangs sound different than lt1's also, and why many mustangs and ls1's sound alike. They have the same firing order.
The block "May" have something to do with it, but an iron block ls1 still sounds like an ls1, and if someone made an aluminum block Lt1, it will still sound like an lt1, if the firing order is the same. Listen to an aluminum SBC it won't sound like an ls1 unless the firing order has been changed or maybe some "funky" type of header design (example 180 degree headers.) or exhaust configuration (possibly x or h pipe).
Basically like he said it's the firing order, (or how the exhaust pules "come out") which is mainly determined by firing order.
