Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

That sounds bad. BTW if you plan on rebuilding and salvaging any internals, I wouldn't run that motor any more. Tare it down.

Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

The only thing we even hope to reuse it the block. If not thats a cheap replacement.

Eagle 4340 3.5" crank, 5.7" hbeams, and flat top srps are ready to go in.

Yeap, sounds pretty similar to mine when I smoked a bearing. Have you allready pulled it apart?

Oh now don't be. Its not so bad. I am having fun with it so far... just starting to run out of money is all.

I had several problems I left unattended and I am probably to blame for the bearing. For one thing I had a lean tune and a crappy fuel pump.

Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

I know just the feeling. I spun EVERY single bearing in my 80k motor 3-400miles after my cam and header install. I was to blame also, shifting at 72-7400 rpm. killed it quick , but it was still pulling I said . Mine never knocked at all, it made a real loud "squeking" noise, sounded like clutch disc was rubbing or something. It was waaaaaaay down on power. Even the cam bearing where shot. Mine has been sitting for 2 yrs. and I'm planning on having it running 1st of the year. My block and timing chain was the only thing salavageble. Machine shop took out 40 thousndths on one of the main caps during line boring. Any more and I'll have to take into consideration the relation in the distance between the t/c and crank gear. Something you might want to consider. Good luck. I'm nervous as hell bout installing mine, car has been down for 2-3 yrs. now, memory has kinda faded some Its all labled so I think I'll be ok.

Don't tell me you reused a timing chain out of a grenaded motor?

Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

Not to hi-jack, but i'm wondering if its possible i spun a bearing before i put my car away for the winter. I missed 3rd and hit 1st; it hit the rev limiter a couple times and i quickly hit the clutch. My question is, would i definitely hear some kind of irregular noise if i spun a bearing? My sounds exactly the same as it did before i missed the shift(good). It is just a little low on power and pops(backfires) between shifts. Is this just bent valves/pushrods? Im doing heads/cam over the winter anyway, with new pushrods, springs, valves etc...

Thanks

Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

Specifically it sounds like a connecting rod bearing. You get that slapping when the rod changes direction.

Re: LT1 Video Spun Bearing

Just a question. When u get that squeeking noise does it always mean spun bearing?? Right after I got done with my cam install I had that same noise but it sounded like it was coming from the DS valve cover. We pulled the cover and it went away right after that and it hasnt come back since, maybe 2k miles since cam install. My oil pressure is still good as always and I dont seem to be down on power after that.

Nope, it was a replaced with a new cloyes right before it grenaded. It also ruined the new 306 cam, all that metal baaarely grooved the back lobe. Got a new LE cam and heads waiting for install.
