LT1 valve spring question

It's always entertaining to see what people's thoughts are on engine parts, so I'll pose this question.

Can flat tappet springs be used with a roller cam on a street/strip motor application, assuming the springs can handle the lift without binding, and the springs can handle, and are set up for the spring pressures the cam requires?

ie.... does a roller cam "require" roller springs if flat tappet springs can meet the task..........?

dont think so dude. the roller cams are faster to ramp open, and the springs are beefier. dont think you'd find any flat tappet cams with enough spring press/lift to fit a roller cam.

one question for you, WHY?

Springs are not made as "roller" or "flat tappet" - there are simply springs that set up with a certain spring pressure at a set height, then based off their spring rate get a certain open pressure.

A flat tappet mechanical cam requires spring pressures in the same range as a hydraulic roller, it's just hydraulic flat tappet cams that take lower pressure.

Ditto. The spring has no idea what kind of tappet is down there! I hope you found my post entertaining ;-)

thats why I was asking him to tell us more info about what he wants to do. ie, he has a pretty aggresive spring in flat tappet terms, that has X press on the seat, and wants to use it on what cam? but yeah I guess if thats your question then they answered it better then I did.
