LT1 Timing Chain and Waterpump

Alright so I bought a Cloyes Timing Chain (CLO-9-3151 ) and a AC Delco Mechanical Waterpump (ACF-12527741) from Summit a couple months ago and now Ive got the money to build my motor and Ive found out that they wont work together so do you think I should return both and get a Electrical waterpump and different timing chain or stick with the waterpump I got now and just get a different timing chain? Either way I need a new timing chain so is there any one that you could recomend for a 94 Z28 LT1? They wont work together because of something to do with the distributor, the 93-94 and different from the 95-97. Please Help, Josh

Update to the 2nd gen opti(pin type), replace that timing set with a standard late model double roller & install longer pin in cam - then use an electric water pump.

Or just get the right timing set...

Probably cost you the same to convert to a vented opti with a double roller as it would to get the right timing set. It's up to you and how much work you want to do.

I bought the car about two years ago and it hasnt moved because it has so many miles on it that I need to rebuild so Im having it bored .30 over and doing alot of the stuff brand new, Ive been having a little bit of trouble trying to get the right parts for it since the 94 was the year that they switched stuff like the opti so its kinda confusing for me and also Im only 17 and Im doing my first engine rebuild alone ,I already have a pretty good amount of stuff for it, but what ever you can recommend I would greatly appreciate but also at the same time I dont have much money. I know Im going to have to get a new timing chain which really sucks cause Ive already spent $360 on the one I got now, what timing chain should I get? And should I get an electrical waterpump? Please help me Ive had this car for two years and cant drive it Im going nuts especially since I go to school with a bunch of spoiled rich kids whos mommies and daddys buy them brand new little piece of sh*t imports that they think are the baddest things around, I wanna blow the doors off them. PLEASE HELP RECOMEND WHAT I SHOULD DO!!!

You'll also need a 95 timing cover, 95/97 opti harness and vaccuum harness, to run the Gen II opti.

I would change out that hot cam for something better and port the heads - do you have to smog the car?

Member/Guru "Shoebox" should have a link for all the opti conversion information, I found the link but it doesn't seem to work...

Since you say you don't have much money to spend, stick with the water pump you have, return the timing set and just get a stock set (<$100). IMHO, you already wasted some money on the MSD ignition and pulleys. If you just want to get it running, those are not needed and don't add much (if any) performance. If the fuel pump was working, you did not need to spend money on a new one.

Agreed, since you don't have a lot of money return the timing set and fuel pump and get the right one. You can get it running with the parts you have. Get the engine back in the car and see if you even need a fuel pump first. More than likely you will spend more money on the rebuild then you plan with gasket sets and misc items that will come up. Do you have a machinist yet that is on board with your plans for the motor? Is he ok with your piston choice? If he is great, but if you aren't sure of yourself and tell him what you want a machinist will try and get you to buy what he feels comfortable using which most of the time is more expensive.
