lt1 swap to a v6 no spark????
lt1 swap to a v6 no spark????
i had the v8 harness and its all plugged in right the securioty light came on and a locksmith came out and fixed it but it just turns over and has no spark at all does anyone have any ideas thanks in advance chris
Last v8 into v6 car I did there was a few wires coming off of a few connectors that were missing, Look at the 3 connectors under the right kick pannels and the the ones on the right strut tower. you need to look at both sides of the connectors and make sure that if there is a wire on one side of it and the other. if not, get a wiring diagram for both your car and the donner car. i'm not sure if its the year or engine change thats different, but in my case it was a 96 v6 car and a 95 v8 harness.
Did you scan it for codes? If there's a problem with the optical cam position sensor (low resolution pulse) in the Opti, the engine will not start. But it will set a code. Problems with the short harness extension that connects to the Opti can cause the same issue. Could be a problem with the IC module.
You really need to provide a bit more detail. What year LT1 engine, harness and PCM did you use. Not all years are the same... some are speed-density, some are MAF, some are OBD-I, some are OBD-II. What is the year of the V6 chassis?
What did the "locksmith" find the "SECURITY" light problem to be? Was is simply a mismatch on the key resistor, or was it a switch or wiring problem?

the lock smith simply cut two wires under the dash to bypass the security.not sure what year the motor is.how can i find out?the car was a 95 camaro 3.4 liter engine every thing stock.the new motor lt1. can i still scan it for codes the check engine light does not come on.this is my project thank you for any help.the car turns over strong just wont crank.new coil, new battery.
You can look at the partial VIN on the back of the engine to determine the year:

You can also differentiate the engine years by what features they have. 93 does not have an MAF sensor, 94-97 do. 93/94 have an unvented Opti, 95-97 have vented. 93-95 knock sensor is 4Kohms. 96/97 knock sensor is 100Kohms. 93-95 do not have a crankshaft position sensor, 96/97 do. 96/97 have vacuum sensor for the EVAP system on the passenger side valve cover, 93-95 do not.
You must know whether the PCM is 93 (OBD-I with removable chip and no knock module), 94/95 (OBD-I with fixed chip and removable knock module, or 96/97 (OBD-II with fixed chio and removable knock module. OBD-II uses four O2 sensors, earlier years have only 2 O2 sensors. You have to know the PCM type to figure out how to scan it.
Hard to understand how you got a PCM, a full wiring harness and a complete engine out of a donor vehicle, but don't have any idea what year it is??????? Did you do the conversion, or did you pay someone else to do it?

First thing to do next is to see why you have no S.E.S. Light, this is usualy a lack of power to the pcm. battery power should be at the pcm black connector at cavity 15 and 31 which are orange wires, key on power should be on the black connector at cavity 30 and blue connector cavity 3 which are pink wires, grounds should be on red connector cavity 2 and 18,clear connector cavity 32 and blue connector cavity 1. when you unplug the connectors you will see the numbers on them, if you missing any power or grounds then go back over those connectors i talked about already. Hope this is helpfull and good luck!
not a big fan of this board but i skim it ever once and while. so if you ask me a question you may not get a reply.
the problem with doing a swap is you have to make sure you use the same year wiring and engine or the wiring wont line up in some spots.
the body wiring harness is different from 1993 to 1994 and 1994 is different from 95 and 95 is different from 1996 and 1997. if you used a donor car and your engine bay wiring harness isnt the problem the it could be under the dash
the other thing you want to check is your ground wires make sure they are all connected there is one on the body by battery that one is connected if the car is turning over. there is another ground on the passenger side by the fan shroud cover and the 3 thats would cause the lack of ignition is on the driver side frame rail right under the abs module maybe slightly forward of it. it should have two ground connected to that location one from the forward wiring harness and one from the engine. my guess is this ground isn't connected.

its a 95 v6 donor car the motor was also in a v6 95 but someone already did the swap and the harness was changed we swapped the harness to the new donor with the lt1 it is obd 1 it only has2 o2 sensors were not sure on the year but it has factory looking aluminum heads which all the lt1a ive seen were cast in camaros and firebirds i heard corvettes starting in 96 had aluminum heads but im not sure they dont have a name so i figured there a factory head any other help would be appreciated thanks all grounds seem to be good
