lt1 SWAP ?S

Hey guys I just got an lt1 to put in this -
I found this website linked from one of my redneck 4x4 sites and have been collecting as much info as I can store but Ive still got a few questions. BTW its from a 93 camaro which I now know is kinda an oddball.
- The engine came with edelbrock headers, how much advantage is there with full tube headers on a stock lt1 that wont have any smog?
- Will a standard 350 flywheel work. I need to use a 10 spline clutch for my truck 5-speed.
- I know now that the opt-spark is doomed for my purposes, I came across a conversion for a small cap distributor - anyone have experiences with doing this. I figure Ill do this now since I have to mess with the computer anyway.
- Which brings me to another point - with the distributor conversion Ill need a newer intake to clear it, so do I get a harness for a 93 or 94-95. I believe the conversion uses a 122772 computer so will this affect the harness app. also?
- Does anyone use mechanical oil pressure or temp guages on theirs? Can I unhook the pressure sender or does it affect the computer?
I appreciate any help you guys can give me - Im not even starting the motor install until I figure everything out.

Give the guy's at Howell Engine Developments a call (810)765-5100. They make excellent wiring harnesses and can set you up with a computer and programing however you want it. Full emissions to no emissions. It cost me $1000 for a full emissions harness,92/93 ecm with a custom burnt chip and a speed sensor. They have excellent customer service and trouble shooting help. As for the opti conversion I'm not sure.

You need to use a flywwheel for a 1-piece seal engine ('87 and newer)

If you don't want to mess with the opti or the fuel injection I believe Chevrolet made a carb manifold for the LT-1 that uses a regular conventional distributor.

The oil pressure sender doesn't affect the computer

I am not sure I understand about the 'need a newer intake to clear it'. Since on the LT-1 the opti-spark distributor is between the water pump and the timing cover, are you sure you have an LT-1 or is it an L-98?

Good luck,

I did a 95 lt1 conversion with a 700r4 and an atlas 4.3 T-case in my CJ-7, But with the CA smog program I had to use the 92/93 ecm and harness due to 95's came with a 4L60E (computer controlled trans) 93's didnt. I belive you need a LT-1 flywheel due to it has a different bolt pattern. But dont quote me on that. Check with the guy's at Advanced Adapters. As for the opti getting wet in a 4x4 is bad news , just stay out of deep water and you should be fine. It might be much easier to keep it rather than trying to rig up a normal distributor and trying to keep the factory intake/fuel inj. and what ever else. and making it all work. Check out www.howell-efi.com Good Luck

Thanks for the info guys. I defintiely want to keep the injection, thats the reason for the swap. What I meant about the dist. clearing the intake was if I converted to a rear distributor the fuel rails look like they sit farther back on my 93. Ill check out Howell's website or give them a call.
