LT1 Swap

I have acquired a Stock Z28 with a 5 Speed Manual Tranny. I am thinking about Swaping the original 305 for an LT1 from a 94 Vette. I am not the greatest of Mechanics and a bit intimidated by the idea as I like reliability then Performance, then looks in that order. My question is: Is this a clean swap or are their numerous MOD's that must take place to make it work ? I have been poking around and I am getting mixed feedback.

all z28s are 350 5.7l motors, and not any z28 ive ever seen has had a 5 speed, they wont bolt up....

only the 3.4s and 3800 series 2 have the 5 speed,

if a z28 is a stick its got a 6 speed.....

so verify your vin with code p.......

anyone if im wrong correct me

Re: LT1 Swap

also what year is the camaro? if its not a 94 or 95 the motor from the vette will not work, the optisparks are different so it WILL NOT be a clean and easy swap, itll cost you a pretty penny

Re: LT1 Swap

It's not really a hard swap to accomplish; pretty much the same as swapping a 350 with a few differences. The LT1 from the vette should bolt into the Z28 without issue so long as the 5.0 was a 1 piece rear main block (don't expect the T5 to live long behind it though). You'll need to use the computer and harness from the vette as well or get one from another LT1 car. Hopefully you have the vette accessories if you want to run AC as it will make life simpler.

Oh, you may want to look into a 94-97 F body radiator.

Re: LT1 Swap

Stock radiator is fine but you should run dual fans if you dont have them. I had to use flexible metal radiator lines to use the stock radiator. What year third gen are you planning to swap the motor into?? Follow the wiring diagrams and ecm pinouts on shoebox's site
