When you say it dies .....does that mean when you turn the key nothing happens ????
When the car shuts down does the engine turn over ?? can you hear the fuel pump turn on
when this happens ??

 

You said you had no codes. If you have no codes, assuming you actually scanned it and didn't just figure you have none because the SES light is not on, then the optical cam position sensor in the Opti is not what is shutting it down. On the high voltage side (cap & rotor) there are no codes that set. I could see it shutting off if the rotor came loose, but then it wouldn't restart the way you indicate.

 

Ill tell u when my opti went... it was def coming apart (came completley apart on the inside when we spun it by hand after removing it. No codes.... scanned or ses light. The car ran poorly.. but ran...would shutboff whenever it wanted.. Would re start after some time sitting... and sounded like timing was way off (almost "lazy") when it did run. Honestly was horrified when spining it by hand, amd u could literally hear it come apart..and the rotor jamned up.

When it dies- I can turn the key and the motor spins and do hear the fuel pump every time I turn the key

Ill run data master to see for codes last time I check I had no codes .I have thrown low and high resolution codes before (like months ago) but they stopped when I put a new icm. Mostly low res is what I got.

 

Trust me.. Im a big fan of the opti. I hope its not it.
