Damn, that's a good price. Haven't seen a gp price that low in a long time.

Hmm... maybe I should buy a backup?

If these weren't so reliable I probably would. LOL!

What all can a scanmaster do for a OBDII guy? One of the reasons I was going to buy one was a code scanner. But they can't scan for codes on a OBDII car. So, what else can they do?

Actually, scanning codes IS what they do (SCANmaster).

I am not sure what makes you think that it does not work for an OBDII computer. Fill us in, we'd be glad to clear things up!

I've heard from several people that the Scanmaster can not flash trouble codes on an OBD2 PCM. If it does, I'll buy one.

ScanMaster LT1 can read DTC codes on OBD-I ONLY. It is not just a code scanner... it is a device that can read 20 or so sensors and computer parameters in "real time" and display those readings one or two at a time.

One of the most useful capabilities is to record max knock retard, minimum O2 levels, and the MPH at which they occured for a single WOT blast.

For all the info on ScanMaster, read my online ScanMaster writeup.

What's the difference between ScanMaster, and say Autotap?

Why not just do an OBD1 conversion. Then the scanmaster will work for DTC's, you can ditch emissions and you can have easier/cheaper tuning.

ScanMaster is a hardware scanner... real time readouts in bright LED's, allowing you to monitor systems as you drive. AutoTap is software that you run on a laptop. It does have real time monitoring, but a little more difficult to read while driving. And AutoTap offers the ability to "log" data for an extended drive, while ScanMaster has no logging capability, other than recording the max knock retard and minimum O2 readings for a single WOT pass.

Personally, I think you need both of them.
