LT1 reliability...(both drivetrain and interior)

Guys as some of you know who read on multiple boards and in the Lounge I'm looking for a new car. I just checked insurance prices for F bodies and it's cheaper then for the stang GT's. However I do want a TA, 6 speed, low miles between a 1994 model and a 1996 model. Now I have some questions for you guys. I wanna know how reliable the cars are before and after 100k miles, because I've heard great things and horror stories, so I'd like you guys to share your experiences good and bad. Also, the interior quality is what disappoints me most on the cars, what can be done to prolong the interior life and tightness to 100+k miles? Thanks guys...

I have a half of an answer. I only bought my car 9 months ago. It had 219,000 miles on it. I only drove it for 2 months before winter storage. I had the engine rebuilt using the original block and brought the car out about a month ago. It felt extremely tight yet last summer before rebuild. I know that it had a new transmission mount because I had them replaced along with all bushings and motor mounts for poly from Energy Suspension. The exterior finish except the hood was still exceptional so this car had obviously been well taken car of. I also replaced the springs and shocks so the car now is nearly like new. I just need an updated hood and a new paint job. I think it is cool that the Odometer shows 222594 and still going strong.

I've only had my trans am for 3 months now, but so far no problems, and i beat the **** out of it. One thing that this car is known for is the optispark, other then that i'd say its a very solid car, unless of course you modify it and start pushing over 400 to the wheels, then obviously stock parts will break. Just take the car to a mec hanic if the mechanic says its in good shape, it'll last u a long time.

I bought my 93 T/A in March 2000 with 84K on the clock. It now has 107K and the interior is still tight, and the engine is good to go. The only problems I've had was a bad water pump, and a owner induced opti failure (bad judgement with a power washer). These are great vehicles as long as you keep up on the "preventetive" maintenance.

I'm on my 2nd fbody, had 97 TA and now a 97 Z28, I love having the last LT1 year for several reasons. But to save time and get to the point you can find a 96-97 LT1 from $7 to 10k in great shape. I'd recommend 96-97 fbody but the older cars are really great cars as well. Mine has the same interior updates including leather as the new LS1 z28's is another reason I chose the 97.
