LT1 reconditioning and paint job...

Wanting to paint my LT1 intake.

I will be taking it to a shop that powder coats and I want to know if the entire thing can just be painted without having to tape off the injector holes and the bolt holes. Of course I am not talking about the critical surfaces like the head and TB areas.

Any harm in this.

I want to make it as easy as possible for the shop to do to reduce costs.

Also how do you get the rubber PCV grommet out of there?

I just used some good quality engine paint for the intake, I chose flat black. Just make sure you get all the O-rings from the injectors and take all the little sensors and such off. I don't know if powdercoating would hold too much heat to make a difference or not, that's why I stuck with paint, also cheaper. I used some extra long needle nose pliers to get that grommet out, it was a pain. Good luck, and post pics.

I would definately tape up the injector holes,TB and intake sealing surface, stick something in the MAP sensor hole, and PCV hole as well. That should only take the shop like 10-15 minutes to do. If they care about the quality of their work they should insist on it. And for the threaded holes, just go to the hardware store and find some cheap bolts that'll screw into all the bolt holes so you won't get any powdercoat in the threads. Saves you from having to chase them. Also i just cut the PCV grommet out. It was $2 for a new one from GM.

I had mine powdercoated black. We plugged off the injector holes, taped holes, etc and taped all mating surfaces. Came out fantastic!
