LT1 rebuild question..
Re: LT1 rebuild question..
What's your budget for this? You've gone from, "i don't want to spend thousands" to.. rebuild/heads/cam/gears etc... make up your mind
And clearly the price I said above was for just labor. Typical cam and supporting components is around $700.

Re: LT1 rebuild question..
Look at it this way. To have my block done( four bolt main conversion, bore .030 over, install cam bearings freeze plugs, buying arp head and main studs) I am at about a $700 machine shop bill. Note that you won't spend quite this much but you won't be over $200 off either. Summit sells rebuild kits for the $550 range but that does not include rods or crank. Depending on what you buy your looking at another $700 for those. Move on to timing set about $200 more. Those are just rogh guesses since I don't have a catalog infront of me. So far that will put you at $2150 for a short block. You could go budget cam and get a LT4 hot cam kit for another $550 and put the stock heads back on know you're at $2700. That's just parts and machine shop labor.
Best thing to do right now is plan out everything you want to do to the car and how you plan to use it. Then decide what order you wnat or can afford to do those mods in. Really on a rebuild you don't want to skimp out and go cheap. You are not going to want to pull this motor and do it all over again. Most street mechanics can't do a full rebuild since you need machine work to do it right. Figure out exactly what goals you have and go from there. If you do what I did and not plan very well, you are going to end up in a deep deep hole. Things like this snowball very quickly.
