LT1 rebuild
LT1 rebuild
I have an original LT1 with 206000 miles, and I'm looking at rebuilding it now. I was hoping someone knew of a reasonable stroker kit price, and where to get it. I'm open to other ideas too. I just figure if it has to be rebuilt, I might as well get more power out at the end. Thanks!
383/396 in general make more torque than the same parts on a 350/355, but not much more power. So don't expect a huge jump in hp unless you are changing other aspects of the motor (heads/cam).
There are plenty of affordable kits on the market for a 383 rebuild. Even 396 kits have come down quite a bit. Do a search on the net or visit some of the sites who advertise here. If you are looking for a built shortblock look at NU-TEK (I think that is how it is spelled).

Building a 383 myself
I'm 80% done with a 383 LT1 and one thing Ive learned is you need a good machine shop (they ain't cheap) and the best set of heads you can find other wise the work you did isn't worth it. I suggest you check with TPIS first for a stroker kit. These guys eat drink and sleep LT1's Also check with Scoggin Dickey but be sure you have a fat wallet. Good luck. PS write to me if you want pictures or a list of parts I used. certified.lawn@verizon.net

Maybe GM was right when they said "We'll be there".
