LT1 ram air box...legal in CA?
LT1 ram air box...legal in CA?
So, I'm looking at the possibly putting a ram air hood on my Z and I'd like to make it functional. Do any of the CA members here know if I'd have any problem getting it to pass smog? As it is they didn't like my SLP CAI all that much (kept asking for the sticker). Thanks in advance.
I was thinking about getting either the Ram Air II hood from www.usbody.com or the Ram Air hood from www.youngsfbody.com. Either one would require the WS6 airbox. Hence my question.
Granted they do look at the exhaust a lot more than the intake, but I just want to make sure I won't have any problems. Is there any way to get the sticker that the WS6s had to exempt the airbox? Or is there one? Thanks guys for the help.

There is no sticker on my car. As stated before there is no issue on the intake
side. It's the exhaust and relocating the cats that's an issue. Putting a factory
ram air on is not any different that a cold air intake and there are 1,000s of those
installed.

Where they might argue with him is in the fact that he has a 93 without the MAF sensor, and the ram air system was designed for the MAF engines. I was going to suggest that he take the picture of the airbox out of the 1997 factory brochure, and show the inspector that its "stock".... but they would notice there is no MAF on his car, while there is one on the WS6 picture.
Glad I left CA with my Formula in 1995........ NJ sucks, but it isn't quite that bad yet. In a few years they are switching completely to the CA emissions standards though.

So do all cars have to conform to the new standards, or just all the new cars after the new standards take effect? Are people gonna have to yank out all there cams and go to stock?
Thanks Fred, that's exactly what I was referring to (sorry guys for not being more clear on that). If there is no EO sticker though, then I won't worry about it too much at this point. I just need to make a final decision on whether I'm going to go with the hood or not. Thanks for the help everyone.
