LT1 ram air

i know many people have made a scoop type thing under the filter in the front of the car.

but has anyone ever actually put some THOUGHT into one??? and made a quality one?? i mean, the SSRA or the FTRA for the ls1 looks good and was well thought out IMO. (except for blocking the radiator......i believe it does that)

if im not mistaken wouldnt the only real power gains be had the faster u go, but it has just struck me as a cool little custom thing to do...............and i love making custom things

anyways, i am thinking of making one, and just wondering what others have done. I already have my design and will post it up when i finish it, but i would just like to see what others have thought of.

Re: LT1 ram air

There aren't any power gains to doing that little "air ram" under the nose of the bumper. If that's what you are talking about. Even if you put a filter directly in the air path. GM said the SS ram air hood didn't actually have any power or ram effects until around 110 or 120 mph.

"little".................hehe, i know what you're talkin about, and thats what i was refering too when i said a half *** job.

However with a K&N FIPK and its conical filter in that hole............IF the right design was implimented i think it would have a good affect

and yes i know GM said that, but i was refering to the ls1's FTRA and SSRA "ram air" kits...............Fast toys ram air, and Super sucker ram air..........Both use this same idea.

However mine's design thoughts are somewhat like the guy that just posted, however no duct work with tubing...............all is metal and black, and will be hidden behind the air dam

the air dam will also be cut to accomodate these new holes and black wire mesh will be added to keep leaves out and what not.

that is a very rough description, but that is a general idea of the "look". Which is as close to stock appearing as possible........i hate goofy lookin aftermarket things, but this will be added and hopefully u will never see it.

PLUS a guy i know just opened his own shop and bought a dyno...........that means i can test it too!!!

plus i just like making things

Re: LT1 ram air

I just used ductworking.

Was it good for any gains?
Probably not.

Do I care?
Nope.
