LT1 questions

There's this car that I'm looking at right now, I think might be the one for me.

It's a 1994 arctic white Z28, hardtop, 6-speed, with only 45,000 miles and this car is CLEAN (never winter driven and the two previous owners were camaro loving old dudes) , it looks perfect inside and out and the test drive went very well. He is asking 12,800 canadian (about 8650$ US dollars).

The problems are the following:
1. factory a/c does not work. How much would it cost to fix/replace it?

2. the second owner had to change the opti-spark (700$) because of the water pump leaking onto it (he also changed the water pump) so my question here is, is there a danger this happens again? He said he changed the opti in 2000. And also, I,ve been reading in the other threads about this CSI water pump. Is this a better pump than the stock one, is it more reliable, is it a recommended upgrade? And if so how much does it cost and can I install it myself.

Thanks for your help.

Well it sounds like a excellent car,try and beat him down some more on the price,as for the opti it was most likely ruined because of the water pump.If they were both replaced then i wouldn't worry about it.With only 45000 miles the water pump seals may have went bad because of age and not being driven much.I say if you like it and can afford it then buy it because these cars are getting older now and mileage is starting to build on these cars especially now that alot of younger guys are getting them and running them hard.

Well as for the price he was initially asking for 13,900$, but then I met up with him and bargained him down to 12,800$. He insists that he will NOT go lower than this price. He challenged me to try and go and find a LT1 Z28 in this condition, he told me I wouldn't. He's probably right.

I guess I won't have to worry about the water pump or opti for a while then, right?
What about the a/c?

Well i live fairly close to where you are and the prices here are going up because 80% of all the fbodies built here in canada were shipped to the states and as they get older more of the young guys want them because the insurance is not as high on them because of their age and you get alot of performance and good looks for the money so the demand is getting higher for them and they are in short supply aleast here in new brunswick so the prices here range from about $10,000 - $16000 so the one you are looking at with only 45000 miles would be well worth $12,800.Also you could check and see how much the dealership would want to recharge the AC and a few parts that may be needed and ask if he will drop that amount off the price.

Situation sounds about the same as the one here. Camaros are fairly rare, you don't see one that often on the road.

He said he would not drop the price despite the air not working.
