lt1 questions

i have a 94 z28 with a rod knock (I think) and I'm thinking about putting a stroker in it, but what rods and pistons do I need to use? what is the compression limit for 93 octane? the car came with a 115 mph speedometer, how do I calibrate it for a 155?

good question. I plan to spend about 300 on a stroker, external balance. I plan to get about 500 horsepower out of the car, its at about 400 now. I dont have alot of money at the moment, so I hope to keep the budget under 1000 if I can.

Most stroker kits start around $1000. You will also need the block machined and clearanced, and any supporting mods.
EDIT: For example, here is a link to Golen's short block page so you can see what kind of prices to exspect.

See earlier responses. With the budget you've quoted, you would be barely able to get an average set of heads and a cam. Or do you already have a lot of aftermarket parts that you can reuse with the stroker? You need to provide a lot more info about what you already have - CAI, exhaust, etc.

what is the compression limit for 93 octane?
Octane requirement is better defined by dynamic compression ratio, not the static compression ratio. Without knowing the details of the cam, its pretty much an impossible question to answer/

Go to a junk yard and buy a cluster with a 155 MPH speedo. Plug-and-play.

I usually spent twice the amount of the parts i find. With all the other stuff and upgrading since it apart and unexpected costs it can be way more than expected.

I meant that I was gonna spend 300 on the crank alone, cuz I havent found a single set with pistons for a 4 inch bore, I was planning on just using the charcoal cyliner cleaner rather than actually boring it out. most of the engine is new, just about everything but the bottom end... which seems to be the problem. it has been making a rattling sound for a while... sounded like it was coming from underneath. then recently the car started to fall apart. now theres a knocking sound, consistant with engine speed, I assume its a rod knock. it also made a horrible scraping/shearing noise when I started the car, seemed to do it only when it was hot. so I left the car at my parents house til my father can help me with it. but I've been trying to figure out what parts I need first.

Problem is the block will need to be machined to clearance the stroker crank, and i belive you will need new rods and pistons to match the crank.
