lt1 question
lt1 question
so here it goes. i have a 95 camaro z28. with the mods in the sig.
hard to explain but ill try my best. when i take off fast in it and stay at a high speed for about 15-20 seconds then slow down to stop my rpms drop below 500 and my batter gauge goes into the red. i went to advanced auto and got an alternator test done they said its not bad but its getting there and the battery is bad so they said the alternator is keeping a charge in the battery but not like it should so they recommended a new alternator and obviously a battery since it is bad. i got a used alternator that works perfect and a new battery and changed it today but it still seems to be having the same problem.
can anyone help me out thanks.

Re: lt1 question
When your engine RPM drops that low, the ability of the alternator to maintain system voltage is reduced - its turning too slowly. Solve the low RPM issue, and you will probably not see the dash volt meter drop into the red.
Put a scanner on it, and observe how the PCM reacts to the lower than target RPM idle. It should respond by increasing the idle air control (IAC) "counts" (number of steps the valve opens). Has the PCM been tuned? It would appear you had to have the 4L60E interface codes programmed out, and that may have affected the IAC control.

Re: lt1 question
I've tried to get the car scanned but no auto store has an obd1 scanner and for some reason the scanner plug is obd2 and everyone looks at me like I'm a moron when I tell them I have obd1 with an obd2 plug. And I'm not sure if the PCM has been tuned. Would I just go to a local shop that tunes cars and ask them to tune it?
Re: lt1 question
You have to go to a shop that has the specific equipment required to tune the LT1 PCM. Not everyone has it. The 95's all have a 16-pin OBD-II "style" ALDL connector, and an OBD-I PCM. If you find someone with an OBD-I scanner, show them this:

Re: lt1 question
Ok sounds good man I appreciate all the help you giving me since I joined the site. One last question specifically to you since you have a th400 how did you go about getting your speedo to work after getting the tranny in? I can't figure it out for mine cuz my speedo doesn't work
Re: lt1 question
I have the VSS sensor and 40-tooth reluctor wheel from a mid-90's GM truck. You need to run an A4 tune, to match the 40 pulses per output shaft signal. Then you have to have the codes for the 4L60E programmed out.
