LT1 question

Whats the difference between the LT1 in the caprice's and the LT1 in the F-Body. All i know is that the caprice has cast iron heads resulting in a 15hp drop. Do the still have hardened pushrods, any big differences that could cause problems with a head/cam install?

Re: LT1 question

They have a different designed WP I know that much. Slightly better flowing heads, but not aluminum. Hardened pushrods are iffy on what if any Fbody's got them.

Re: LT1 question

Right now i have a caprice lt1 in my car cuz the original owner blew the motor by not upgrading to double valve spring with the cc305. I heard 93-95 Fbodies had hardened pushrods. the caprice heads flow better? so should i get those port and polished or should i do the stock alum heads?

Re: LT1 question

I'd put aluminuns on there personally. No one knows what years had hardened but some only cost $30, its been debated with no conclusion.

Re: LT1 question

Just spend $30 and know for sure you have hardened pushrods.

As noted those iron heads you are so convinced are bad flow MORE than your aluminums. The HP drop is due to a more torque targetted cam, restrictive intake and exhaust, and 87 octane. While it may be down on peak hp a little it make more torque at a lower rpm EXACTLY what the b-body needed..
The b-body got hardened pushrods the same years the f-body did

I actually had no idea that the iron heads flow better. the only difference i knew about was the difference in heads so i just assumed that the alum. heads were on the more performance oriented car so that the caprice had less hp because of them. thanks for the help and the info.
