LT1 police package questions

Ok, I've been searching and it seems that no matter how I word it, all I get back are threads dealing with the police some how or another.

Help me out here please.
I'm looking to buy a 1995 LT1 police car engine.

Can someone point me to a good read that really breaks down the specs on the engine and ECU?

Thanks!

Look for B4C. But...the engine and computer are just the same as any Z28.

^ditto.........folks get hung up on this police package stuff when in fact the major difference is that police cars weigh a heck of a lot more. Most fast stuff the police have are imponded cars confiscated off of drug busts.

The engines in a police car are exactly the same engines found in a factory production car.

yall are mostly correct the only difference is the police engines have an interceptor which standard engines do not have. However ive got friends that are police and ive asked them several times about this interceptor their responses were theyre about 1000 bucks and when the cars are put up for auction the interceptors are removed. So just bc u buy a camaro that was a police car dont think your getting anything other than a standard camaro because youll be disappointed.

There is no such thing on the Camaro. They are the same as a regular Z28 as far as engine and computer. The brocures for the B4C read the same as the Z28. Same HP, same, this and that.

BTW, an "interceptor" is a Ford.

I appreciate all the talk about the interceptor stuff. But what I'm actually looking for is the internal specs...what is the hp/tq specs? compression ratio? anything like that to help me understand what I'm getting.

I HAVE a 1992 Buick Roadmaster LT1. IT's TBI not TPI. I'm planning on getting the 1995 engine because it has the TPI, and if I understand right, better flowing heads. all around more power to start off with. Just trying to find out the facts.

thanks for the information about the police package though...good info!!!!

They aren't. What makes you think they are??
The term "Intercepter" comes from their use, to intercept highway speeders, not from any special (speed) equipment.

You don't seem to be getting it. They are the same as the 95 Z28.
Do a search.
275(285)hp@5200rpm, 325lb/ft T@2400rpm, CR 10.5:1.

I believe the term "intercepter" was used in the 50s in reference to cop cars with ford engines. For the most part the only difference in cop cars and regular cars is alternator size, since they needed to run all the radio crap, etc. I have driven quite a few cop cars and if anything they were a POS, with the exception of 60s chrysler products, e.g. dodges, plymouths.

The ole saying was "you might beat the cop car, but you won't outrun the Motorola."

I would never buy a used cop car. They are driven by many different drivers and the mileage does not reflect the amount of time spent idling. JMHO

As already said, it's not.

The Ford police vehicles (like a Crown Vic) actually are (or were) badged "Police Interceptor" on the car. GM has never used that term for any police vehicle.

Didnt the b4c 9c1 etc etc get stiffer springs/shocks bigger sway bars ?

and in the case of the 9c1 i believe the brake calipers were wider to accept a pad with more friction material.
