Lt1 Piston Slap?
Lt1 Piston Slap?
are these things known for piston slap in cold wheather when start up in the morning?or clutch noise?if not,i think i got shafted.i just picked up a 96 lt1 sixspeed.and this morning i started it up and went to take off and herd a noise that sounded like a very slight rod knock.so before i go back to the dealer i got it from and raise hell.i just wanted to make sure.
with it in neutral and clutch out some clutch noise is normal. Any way you can get a video or audio clip?
Best way to tell is to put it up on jack stands start it up cold and climb under the front. if its rod knock or a spun crank bearing you would be able to tell easier.

Piston slap is a fairly common in the LT1's, but it should go away after a couple minutes of warm up. Mine did it from the time it was new, and when we tore the engine down at 80K miles, for a stroker build, there was nothing wrong with it.
I agree with Fred...piston slap is just part of the equation. As long as it goes away after warm up you shouldn't worry about it.
And for that matter you shouldn't be hammering on the car until it is warmed up anyway
