lt1 oil filter fitment

Hello everyone I am new to the forum, but not to cars. I recently obtained a low mileage 98 camaro z28 ss. The motor seems to have issues. At this time I am only in planning stage. I went to get an oil filter for this car and the filter did not fit. I believe the engine block has been changed. pl15313 is the filter I was given, is this correct? I am inside and dont have the number that came off. Although the one that came off is not as big around as the PL15313, but longer. The engine has a bad knock. Is this a sign something was changed.

Re: lt1 oil filter fitment

I just looked at the title. Sorry its a 1997. Locally I found a low mileage 96 Roadmaster with 5.7, So will this engine and Transmission work?
I am unsure if I want to rebuild this engine or replace it. If its not the oem engine, may as well replace with a low miles engine/trans combo and transfer the performance parts.Thats why I was asking about the oil filter. The guy I got it from was a dealer and took the car in on trade and has no information about it. I drove the car and the transmission slips just before shifting into 2nd gear. The car is an absolute beauty. I think most of the miles are 1/4 mile at a time. I pulled the valve cover it has gm performance roller rockers 1.6 with aluminum heads and a red intake. I will post pics soon. So does the oil filter issue make this engine a different year or make any sense? Im pricing parts and labor to rebuild the engine and transmission vs buying the running Roadmaster. Im not in a big hurry to do this, I just did not want to loose the chance to buy a running engine and transmission. They are asking $2k for the buick. I figured to remove what I need, sell some left over parts on ebay and scrap the rest. This should help bring the cost down. The car has 8?K miles and is 1 elderly owner. Im not looking to race the car or drive it hard, just a cruiser and give eventually to my son.

I would spend the $2000 on a rebuild rather than buy the buick.

Re: lt1 oil filter fitment

Where is this wagon?

Far as a filter not fitting there is an ADAPTER on the block for the oil filter, if the filter doesn't fit I would sooner suspect the adapter was changed than the block.

Honestly I would look for a local used shortblock. If in Wisconsin I might be able to help otherwise post your rough location and maybe someone knows of something close.

The Roady engine could be made to work and so could the tranny but both need some tweaks and certainly not worth cutting up a low mileage decent car for $2000 to get that stuff. You should be able to find an engine and tranny for half that or less.

Re: lt1 oil filter fitment

ok. Thanks. Ill start looking for a short block. I just did not want to miss the opportunity. I was unsure how much the engines were the same. I thought since my car had the wrong oil filter it would lead to some clues, about the engine in it. I need to remove the engine and trans anyway. I now have a direction.
Thanks
Tom

If you found a low mile b-body engine for $600 or less then it might be worth talking you through the swap.

The shortblocks are the same, but a lot of external stuff is different or in a different spot.
