LT1 off throttle popping...Is there a way to fix this?
LT1 off throttle popping...Is there a way to fix this?
As the subject says.
This popping that the engine produces when coming off the gas is very annoying. The engine runs super strong so I dont think it has major issues.
Thanks

Well, assuming you're talking about popping through the exhaust...
If you were running a carb, especially with a very "open" exhaust system; I would say that it's just high vacuum sucking gas down the manifold and making your "off-throttle" extra rich.
With injectors, I find myself wondering if one or more of them isn't sticking.
Try running a couple of bottles of Techron through your tank. Worst case situation is it does nothing and you waste about 15 bucks. On the other hand, you may get lucky.

Are you running cats? If you're running an open plate on the Borla, it could also be that as well. It's a common exhaust issue when you do headers and no cats and a free flowing exhaust system.

I run closed plate on the Borla, however I dont have a cat. I have a bullet muffler in place of the cat. I do remember it not being as big a problem when the cat was installed.
From what I have read the popping is widespread through many LT1 and is considered a nuisance by most.
That being said I still would like to fix it if its easily fixable and does not involve gutting the engine.

haha my 4cyl sonoma does this...
i got a 40 series exiting before the rear wheel 2 1/2 piping from cat bak
i dont mind it because it makes my truck sound like it has a bigger engine
i think its jus too large tubing for the exhaust flow, sorta creating a vacuum then a a pop when the flow resumes its normal path

Went away after I cam'd it the first time.
I think the only solution would be to put a cat on it, i've yet to hear a bolt on header/no cat LT1 that doesn't pop on release of throttle.

Re: LT1 off throttle popping...Is there a way to fix this?
I wonder what the real reason is for the popping, I have heard several different reasons.
The leading reason seems to be raw fuel geting into the header.

If you have AIR check for a stuck check valve. I had heavy popping on decel and it bothered me. Everyone told me it was "normal" but I knew it wasn't as I hadn't changed anything. Turned out both check valves on the manifolds were stuck, one wide open, so the O2's were reading WAY lean, making me run way rich. Just a thought.... or the same can be applied to a leak at the header....
