Which LT1 motor would you choose for a transplant?

Ok... here's the best idea.....and my opinion.

Get an aftermarket harness (OBD I) so the wiring will be cake and clean. And use any year LT1 engine you want. You can use any year, SD or MAF... it doesnt matter at ALL since you are using an aftermarket harness. Make it whatever you want. I just read an article about modding a 92-94 opti and making it vented. http://www.corvettefever.com/editori...=text&id=16758

So basically it comes down to it doesnt matter. If you are going to play with stock harnesses, don't get a 92-93 harness since the ECM will NOT control your 4L60E.

They were white with orange strips and had different SS badges (they were white and orange as well) than the regular Anniversary cars. 100 I'm pretty sure, and then the Firehawks.

Thanks for that link S84Z28, that sure looks like an easy alternative to make a non-vented opti vented rather than converting to a '95+ vented opti system.

So at this point, no matter if its a LT1 or LT4, I have no way of knowing if its a 4-bolt main or not without removing the oil pan??
Any VIN numbers that would indicate this or not?

Now I'm curious as to if either of my LT1's are a 4 bolt mains or not (92 Vette and 95Z). Also, both LT1 and LT4 shared the same block and have the casting # 10125327 This number really gives no extra info and the same casting number can be 2 or 4 bolt mains.

A little extra info on that opti conversion, I have been told you can also use a later model cap that has the built in vacuum port on it, so you dont have to make one in the plastic cap.

when i went to buy the lt4 km the dealer they found it under the parts listing for a 96 vette(because i didnt have the part #). and said the reason was that the 96 vette was the only year that the lt4 came stock in any thing widley mass produced. not like the the 27 ss camaros in 97 (or how ever many there were). so if you want a knock module for a 95 vette you will get the lt1 km but if you want one for a 96 vette then you get the lt4 km. thats what was stock. and if you have one of those 27 camaros then you better no what you have under the hood before you order anything for it. to my understanding the lt4s have 4 bolts main and the lt1 have 2 bolt mains. so maybe this explains why you can pull a vette motor and get a 2 bolt main.

crap i dont know. this was told to me by the dealer. for what its worth.

The 30th anniversary did come in white with orange stripes but, the 330hp LT-4's were orange with white stripes. I believe that is right about LT-4's being 4-bolt and LT-1's 2 bolt, but some vettes still come 4 bolt LT-1's

All 6 speed 1996 corvettes were LT4 cars... Plus the 1996 Grand Sport cars were too which were all 6 speeds as well. You could never get an LT4 in an automatic car. All automatics were LT1's. Plus 1996 was the only year the LT4 came in a (normal) production vehicle.

I don't consider a special edition LT4 SS a "normal" production car.

Well 9 months later, my transplant is complete and I'm smiling ear to ear when driving this baby now.
Ended up with a '96 LT4 with an OBD I PCM, Lingenfelter cam and a few other goodies and some head work, and now I have a 365 rwhp Silverado.
