LT1 Mods? What to do?

I have a 97 TA WS6 with no cats, flowmaster exhaust and other than that it is a bone stock engine... Ran a best of 14.7 at the track...

I wanna mod my car but what do you guys recommend doing without supercharger or other Major mods???

thanks...

Re: LT1 Mods? What to do?

Thats ok. Practice...I guess I feel you should establish your cars base before modding.. I ran 14.1 @ 97mph bone stock. Then worked on it from there... As far as basic mods... you can do the throttle body bypass. Costs next to nothing and has been dyno tested..the person who posted about it gained 7rwhp. Not bad for free.

Where exactly are you located? We can figure out the elevation and convert your time so it makes more sense.

What were your 60fts? and mph.?

Honestly one of the best mods you can do (and I havnt yet) is to get a set of Drag Radials or any other sticky tire. You risk breaking a rearend..but it will drop your time a decent amount. Traction is a wonderful thing.. or so I hear..

Get rid of the BLOWMASTERS. Then do some headers... A4 or M6?

From what I have read Long tubes make a HUGE difference. Many people drop at least .5 off their ET. Go for them, I am going to when I have the money for some Jet-Hot coated headers

I wouldn't say half a sec, but they do help alot. You really need to get a CAI. It's $200, and will give you a noticable increase in power. It was my best bang for the buck mod. If you got more money, then go headders. Plan on spending about a grand on them.

Whats the budget your working with?? How much money do you have to spend. There is countless parts that can make you faster but it doesnt help any to say a head and cam intall when you only have like 500 bucks.

Re: LT1 Mods? What to do?

I either wanna sell my car and get an LS1 or do a few mods to my car now...

I dont really have a budget but I do not wanna go as far as stroking, supercharger, or anything drastic like that...

I was thinking stuff like gears, headers, or some drag radials...

But mostly i was looking for mods that i could do other than these....

Re: LT1 Mods? What to do?

best bolton in the world is a nitrous kit.

my stock 94 t/a ran 14.2@98 on motor, and with a NX 100 shot, 13.1@106 with 155k miles, and 2.73 gears with an A4. mods were: i beat out the cat myself, slowmaster, and i cut the stock airbox apart to where nothing but the filter sealed and zip tied it to hold it on. the homemade CAI was worth a little over 1mph.

longtubes are definatly worth the money, dont get the shortys, i had Macs on my 93 and they gained nothing.

i would say buy a real CAI kit like K&N or moroso ($200 or less). find a used torque converter and that will knock .5 tenths off if its a good one (PI, Yank, ect.. ) and some good tires.

What I want to know is ....

To all those who claim huge gains with LTs...is that from stock manifolds to LTs?? Whats the benefit of LTs over Shortys? 1 tenth? 2 tenths???

Re: LT1 Mods? What to do?

Headers seems like its the best thing for me right now......that and 4:10 gears...... anyone think that will get me into the high 13's? ON the long tubes what is the diff between coated and uncoated???

Re: LT1 Mods? What to do?

with longtubes and 4.10's you should be in the mid 13 second or better possibly range. Coated headers have a nice shiny coating on them that wont rust, will keep heat in the engine bay down, may increase performance slightly and overall look way better than painted or non coated headers (get the coated ones)

I would say get the longtubes, 4.10's, a cutout, do the free mods and get some et streets or drag radials and you could possibly hit a high 12 and low 13's for sure.
