LT1 to LT5 conversion?

My gfs friend was saying he knows someone that does them. I said are you sure its not an LT4 conversion, he said no. The LT5 is a totally different engine or so I thought. Is this possible?

The LT5 is longer than than the LT1. He would have to move the firewall back for the LT5 block to fit.

He said the guy charges 70k to do it. You could buy the engine for less than that.

Nay! Believe it or not, there is a local 4th gen with an LT5 under the bonnet. The next time I see him at a car show I'll take a picture for all to see

You can get a BBC into the engine bay of a 4th gen so you can get an LT5 in there too. They probably weigh about the same too as the the LT5 is a heavy mother.
If I was wanting to be "different" this isn't the route I'd take where performance and handling are concerned. I do know where you can get an LT5 (~40k miles) for 10k if you're interested.

Other than the cool factor, there is no logical reason to do the swap. The motors cost a fortune to start out with (I think it is still possible to get them in crate motors for 15k). They are expensive to maintain, and have a limited aftermarket. Then the time it would take to cram it in a 4th gen.

You could go far faster w/ less work and money spent just modding an LT1/LS1.

Just as a side note and not to change the topic but I was at my local performance shop the other day and noticed a 93 mustang under cover. Being that I owned a couple of these at one time I uncovered it. There was an LS1 engine bolted up and ready to go!! I couldn't believe my eyes. all that was left was the radiator and cooling hook ups. I wish I had my camera.

Well LT-5 would be cool and a LT-5 TT would be way cool, but i have not won the lotto yet so not going to happen. Anyway you could build a way better faster engine for 5K or less for sure.

Why go with an LT5 or LS1 when this LT1 says all you need to know

Good job Mg, glad to see the beast is alive

LT5 is Lotus build Engine Dual Over Head Cam Engine, 4 valve per cylinder.
It took many years GM come up with same power stock engine; which is known as LS6 Engine
