Those two pics are of LT1 engines and they both are equipped with composite valve covers.

Lt1 covers have the drip tabs that do NOT clear roller rockers. They have to be cut out. LT4 covers do NOT have the drip tabs.

Outside appearance and deminisions are the same.

I believe it was the manual transmission cars that were LT4s in 1996.

I read it that he was talking about the cars at first as well but I suspect he means that all '96 covers are LT4 covers. I doubt there is anyway of divining that answer....

As for your statement here, all Grand Sport Corvettes and manual transmission equipped Special Edition Corvettes came with the LT4 engine for a total of 6,412 cars. Regular coupes and convertibles came with the LT1 engine, regardless of transmission choice. LT1 cars totalled 21,536...

In 1996 a manual transmission in a Corvette could only be had with an LT4 and vice versa. No LT1 Corvette received a manual tranny in 96.

That's what I was led to believe.

i have a 96 corvette that is neither a grand sport or a collectors edition but is an lt4/6 speed. you guys don't know much about these cars.. my covers did not have driptabs and were composite plastic. you could only get an lt4 with a six speed and an lt1 with an auto in 1996.. all lt1 f/b bodys came with metal valve covers and with the exception of 92which had magnesium, all ltX vettes came with the composite valve covers.

Is this somehow different than what I said? My car is a non-GS non-Collectors Edition Lt4 6-speed also. Sheez

at what what point were you singled out or said to be wrong? and just because we have estabilshed the engine tranny options for 96 corvettes that isn't helping the OP with his valve cover question. sheez

That was a direct response, to "you guys don't know much about these cars" quite a statement. Some of us do know a lot about these cars, such as myself, who provided correct information.

You can still get the P.S LT4 cover, I just have two P.S LT4 valve covers on mine, flipped the p.s side one around on the d.s. I put two breather from Speed Inc (Helix style), could just use an oil fill cap if you wanted. The drip tabs are easy to clearance with a dremel, I have a spare driver side cover as well.

I simply cut the drip tabs out with a dremel as well.
Takes 10 minutes.

LT4 valve cover clearance

Will the LT4 composite valve covers clear the alternator on the F body?
I dont see the "notch" on the passenger side.
Thanks for any info.
