Question LT1 to LT4 Experts(NOT another conversion question)

Before you flame me,this is not another question about the Summit LT1 to LT4 conversion. I've read through 20 pages on LT4's here and I don't think this question has been asked.

The LT1 in my '97 Camaro dropped a rod, which came without warning. I just started it in the morning and bang the rod dropped. Has that happened to anyone here? Anyway, luckily I bought an extended warranty on the car when I bought the car. The warranty adjuster approved a new GM engine for it. I know the guys well at the dealer and they would be willing to drop a new GM LT4 in it and just charge me the differance in cost.

This is going to be a GM long block(block, heads,no intake,ect.). My question is,what if any part will I need or will all the LT1 parts work with it? I know the intake is differant but is there anything else I should change? I've read posts on here about fuel rails and knock modules. Will the LT1's work? There is also differant GM #'s on the injectors, throttle body, ect. Also what about ECM programming?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The block is the same from LT1 to LT4, the differences are mainly in the heads and intake. The crank has been machined a little more, and the I think the pistons are slightly different, but not enough to really matter. Also, the crank pulley/damper is dual speed balanced to support being run up to 6300rpm.

You MUST use the LT4 intake with the LT4 heads, the LT1 unit will not fit. The LT1 fuel rails will work just fine, and the car will run decent with the stock LT1 ECM tuning. This is what SLP did with the LT4 cars in order not to have to recertify them. However, the car should pick up at least 20HP just by getting the ECM tuned for the LT4. Basically, all you really must change is the intake, but for best performance you should also do the ECM tuning from someone like pcmforless.com or madz28.com. Don't let them tell you there is a GM program for the LT4 in the f-body, there isn't. It's just the stock LT1 program.
