I am seriously considering swapping out my Lt1 for an Ls1 and I have a few questions regarding this swap. Here are my questions: 1. will my transmission bolt up to an ls1?
2. will the a/c and power steering hook up to an ls1?
3. how much will a wiring harness cost?
4. am i delving into something that I will regret later?
Thanks for the help, Jason.

Easier to sell the car and get an LS1 car.

Well I think that it would be much cheeper to get an LS1 engine than a complete LS1 car.

1 NO
2 NO
3 a painless about 500$
4 It depends

You will also need a LS1 Front K Member
Just build a 383 and smoke LS1 all day

what part of the tranny has a diffrent bolt patten? tranny to bell housing? the back of the engines have the same bolt pattern only an ls1 has one less hole.

yes, the tranny will bolt up. he's right, one hole that is in our trannys is not there on the LS1. it will be fine. thats what all the big LS1 guys do when they bolt in a TH400. if those 8, 9, 10 sec. cars can get away w/o that one bolt, you'll be fine. you will need a diff. flexplate and conv. though. as well as all the accessories are diff. you will spend ALOT of money to make the swap. I think the only way it could be done and not spend a TON of money is if you bought a wrecked car that had all the stuff needed. if you piece it together, there's no way to account for all the little things you will have to get.

As far as I know you will need the following from an LSx car....

steering rack and steering linkage
k-member
electrical harness and PCM
radiator and fans

You also need more hood clearance (dunno what will work... maybe UltraZ??)

I don't know anyone who has done the swap so unless you can find someone, you're on your own. It's a good swap idea because of the potential but you may have some probs along the way. Getting through it is just a matter of your abilities/resources.

Good luck.
