lt1 or ls1

I am looking to get a camaro with high mileage or a blown motor with intentions on stroking it shortly after purchase. I am wondering which one would be better to go with.. Ls1 or LT1? It is my intention, obviously, to work off of the block that comes with the car. Also keep in mind the power and let me know which has a stronger tranny and rear. Also if anyone has any power numbers they can tell me I might expect it would be appreciated. thanks

At least from what I have gathered, either is a good candidate for forced induction. When staying NA, however, the LS1's superior mechanical engineering really shines. The 23 degree LT1 heads just can't compete with the 15 degree LS1 design.

Re: lt1 or ls1

Although I prefer the style of the lt's over the lS1s that's a matter of personal taste. My mechanic just purchased a 98 LS1 at an auction and it is pretty trashed, but for 4 grand he got quite a good deal since he intended it to be a project car anyway.

I'm guessing that since the LS1s have been out now since 98 that you might be able to find one at an auction for a good price.

Other than the engine and brakes, I'm thinking the platforms are basically the same. I understand that if you pay attention to the installation and clearances for the pistons that you won't have any problems with the so-called piston slap experienced as a result of too lose tolerances from the factory. That's just hearsay on my part.

So if the style isn't a probleM, I'd opt for a late model LS1 at auction.JMHO

Trans and rear ends are the exact same in both. Brakes are a lil better on the LS1. Styling is obvioulsy a personal preference, but id take an LT1 over LS1 style any day. But for the engine, id go with the LS1. The heads on a LS1 are going to outperform LT1 heads. Stock for stock, ported for ported, the heads are better.

Re: lt1 or ls1

The trannys are not the same. Similar, but not the same. The LT1 M6 is able to hold up to a bit more abuse.

Think about your goals. If you are shooting for 11s and thats it, then you might be better off with an LT1. LS1s are faster per mod, but their parts are also more costly as well as the initial investment.

Just think about your goals and how much you wanna spend. LS1 typically runs 4-5k more than an LT1. For that money, you could buy a SICK topend that would destroy just about any LS1 heads.

Just something to consider. But I am partial to LT1.
