LT1 to LS1

Anyone here done a LT1 to LS1 upgrade??? If so, can you tell me the do's and don'ts and how difficult it is. The class I run in allows update/backdate and that is one option I have. THe other option would be to change mine to a LT4 which I know would be a lot more simple. I've got 160,000 miles on mine now so I know it's just a matter of time before I'm going to have to do something and I want to start the planning process. Can you still get a crate LT4???

Hey Steve....check the GaFBA board and see if Dave still has the ls1/tranny/harness/pcm for sale. All the acc. and brackets come with it to. I belive he said the engine had 60000 on it. If he still has it you may get a good deal on it now.

LT4

If I'm not mistaken, LT4's beeing vette engines should put out more than LS1's... I'm not 100% sure.... but it would seem to stand its logic...

How much would an LT4 cost now?

No no no, LT-1's, LT-4's, and LS-1's are all Corvette motors that are also in the Camaro. The LS-1 should put out a little more than the LT-4, but the LT-4's are weird and can put out alot more power than stated, so, who knows. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Go on teh vette boards there are some LT4's making 315-320rwhp stock.... but the lt4 is more than just a head swap not much, unless you want to knife edge the crank and get into all that, but the little things count apparently...

Rather than go through the hassle of swapping a LS1 into a LT1 equipped car wouldn't it be easier to start with a LS1 car and simply put the LT1 front end on it?
You would have to use the LT1 intake setup to get the hood clearance but it would be much more cost effective.

I wish I had though of this before I bought my car.

I'd love to have a LS1 but I don't like the fish face front ends.

He runs in ESP. He's not allowed to do a 383 or any internal engine mods (besides .030 over and gasket matching). He's stuck with back/updating to an LT4 or LS1.

I was going to do this originally, have MTI build me a 427 LS1 and swap it in, all in the name of taking 2% of the cars weight off the front end so I can get a bit better turn in while on the track.

Realisitcally, I'd save around $20,000 building up my LT1 and taking weight on through other ways, such as a fiberglass hood, aluminum bumper brackets, carbon/aramid brackets instead of steel etc. etc.

The LS1 swap, excluding the engine and transmission, will require about $3000 of extra crap, fuel tank, fuel lines, crossmember, computer, gauge readouts, brackets, emmision systems if applicable and a ton more.

I'd keep an LT style motor in it. Just my opinion.

Yea, I'm really leaning toward the LT4 conversion. I've seen the heads for around $1295. I have to stick with the stock LT4 cam also. All I can really do is balance and blueprint, port match the intake and heads, and anything bolt on.

A little exageration, but lets see.

$100 Fuel Tank
$50 Fuel Lines
$150 Emmision Systems & Controls
$200 Radiator and Fan
$100 K-Member
$150 Dash Electronics
$200 Exhaust System, or labor to make current system work
$50 Console
$150 Pedals, slave cylinder

$1150 so far, and that's all used stuff.
