To be honest I would not go through the hassle. If you want a fun project how about converting over to a 3.8 V6 turbo motor out of a Grand National.

As trey said do a 383 and you'll be beating them. It makes no sense to put an LS1 into an LT1 car, you could just sell the LT1 car and get and LS1 and come out ahead.

Also dont forget you will have to change the front end and hood to make it fit too. That right there is another $1,500 or so.

my take on this beaten topic basically is you could build an LT1 that would kill any LSx car for the price you would pay for that LSx motor and modifications to make it work.

I agree with turbo_z, look at what a ls1 engine goes for used, and what you could sell your used lt1 one. Plus all the hours of work, modification, fabrication, etc... if you truly want an ls1, sell your car and buy an ls1 already in a car! I had an ls1, 98 z28 and sure it ran great, but I sold it, got a 95 ta and had enough for new ws6 wheels, supercharger, and alot of extra cash, so I know what I prefer! If your gong to spend the money, get an ati procharger, stroker kit, or a nitrous setup. You'll be faster!

I'd go Vortech first Some heads to lower the compression would be nice though, just watch that you dont hit over 550 HP or so though, beyond that point on stock parts, not going to last forever.

Skip the Vortech and just go for a turbo. Turbolocity should have one out here soon enough.

Regardless if you go with a blower or turbo you will need to rebuild the bottom end to handle boost. If budget is not an issue then go turbo.
