LT1 intake restrictive?

If guys are getting 12-22 hp from switching from the LS1 intake to the LS6 one on stock to mildly modified engines, how bad is our LT1 intake with earlier technology?

Theres a big difference in plenum volume between the early LS1 and the late LS1/LS6

Re: LT1 intake restrictive?

the lt1 intake isn't really restrictive... a good light lt1 intake willo go a long ways in power. it's nothing you'd want to consider changing until you get 450rwhp IMO. even the taller intake port lt4 intake will get you to 500rwhp without much restriction. again, this is all IMO, but i wouldn't see any need to change it and spend the money

Re: LT1 intake restrictive?

I'm not sure what sparked your question, but there are several threads on this very subject being discussed. I wouldn't say the LT1 intake is restrictive because with it's short runners it does well in the upper rpm's. What I would say is that there is definitely more torque and power left on the table at the lower and mid range rpm's with other intakes compared to the LTX. There aren't any intakes that are direct replacements for the LTX, but a few can be made to work with a LTX motor with a few modifications. These intakes aren't cheap either wether it be a stealth ram, sheetmetal, or single plane intake because of the modifications that have to be done to the manifold and sometimes to the car itself to get it to fit, like drilling extra holes in the heads or cutting the cowl. Do a search and you will find lots or info.
