rookie question: difference between 95 caprice LT1 and 95 Camaro LT1
Hi, can someone explain to me the difference between 95 caprice LT1 and 95 Camaro LT1? Is there one at all? I'm planning to put a LT1 into my truck and would like to know what kind of donor car I should look for.
Thanks, Roberto
Thanks, Roberto

no most caprices that had a v8 in it in 95 had an LT1 but they have IRON heads opposed to the Aluminum heads on our cars. im not sure which ones had it but some had a baby lt1 that was i think 4.3 liters but those had iron heads too.
the biggest differences are the heads, intakes, accessory brackets, and im sure there are some other small things too.

MyGreenBaby, You have freakin Beutiful Car ! I have never seen a dark green camaro look that good! PCM Tunings for the Caprice LT1 is a lot different also.

Looks like the major difference are the iron/aluminum heads. Any performance issues other than the added weight of the heads?

Thank you very much. I have done ALOT of stuff to it since ive done that site. It looks pretty much the same but now it has a forged 383 among other things.

Those iron heads flow more than the aluminums and if you are leaving it stock the Caprice cam has more lowend torque which might be great for a truck. A fresh set of valvsprings and it will pull to 5800 or better though not as hard up top as the f-body cam would. The intake manifolds and bottomends are exactly the same. Don't fall into the aluminum is better belief either it has one benifit only and that is weight and really what is 35lbs. on a 4000lbs. truck. The usual argument is that aluminum disapaites heat better and it does but heat is what craetes pressure to drive the piston and the extrea heat pulled out is waste, the extra compression they run simply makes up for the heat they waste in the cooling system.
As far as the LT1 being in Caprices it has nothing to do with being a cop car and the Caprice, Roadmaster, Fleetwood, and Impala SS all got the same exact version, with the 4.3L L99 or baby LT1 because it is a V8 being the base engine available only in the Caprice sedan be it a cop car or civilian and the LT1 being optional.

Yeah but heat is also a cause of pre-detonation aka knocking. It weighs less, and it reduces heat seem like valid reasons for me.

Re: rookie question: difference between 95 caprice LT1 and 95 Camaro LT1
They pretty much sumed up the differance. Everything is basically the same but the heads. B body has IRON and F body has Aluminum. THe cam specs arent the same but they arent enough to worry about. Everything else will work just fine for your swap into your truck. The only other thing that changes are the accessory bracket and the water pump. The B body water pump uses different hose routing then the F body but those things wont matter to you as your swapping into something completely different then the origional car. Im placing a B body engine into one of my Fbodies because its cheaper to buy but you get the same thing. If you need some more information in the differences let me know ill get you the info. Thanks.

Dont mark my word for it but I heard that the aluminum heads were much easier to repair if cracked, compared to the iron ones.
But for price you cant beat the old cop car motors, go to your next auction and you could pick a whole B4C up for under 400.00
