LT1 Intake Powder Coated
LT1 Intake Powder Coated
I had my intake powder coated and they plugged up all the holes and taped off the front and the bottom gasket mating surfaces before they did it but they powder coated the whole bottom of it. Will this hurt anything? I am afraid that it will flake off.
I suggest getting another intake. There are coatings, e.g. ceramic, etc. that you can use on the inside, but I wouldn't powder coat it because one never knows how clean the inside was when the coating was baked on. JMHO
That makes me nervous. On the other hand, we temperature cycled a small metal part that had been powder coated at my work. We cycled it from -67F to 257F, 50 times and the coating didn't flake or peal off. But then again, I wouldn't put it inside my engine. I'll bet you can have the coating on the bottom sandblasted off.
If you get it sandblasted then you better get all the damn sand out of every nook and cranny with a power washer or something. i suggest going over the bottom of it with a wire brush or scrubby pad and getting any loose stuff off then wash it and install it.
What is the best way to remove the powder coating?
Has anyone tried this?

The car I bought had its underside of the intake PC and it flaked off which contaminated the engine and led to the rod knock that killed the motor.
Granted, the dumbass coated over a dirty underside but I still would NEVER do it.

For the price of sandblasting, etc. you could buy a used intake, polish the hell out of it with a wheel and polish, port it and sell the other one. Result, shiny intake, no worry about the sand blasting and keep or sell your power-coated int after removing the pc at your own pace. JMHO
