lt1 hooting noise at idle?
lt1 hooting noise at idle?
today as i pulled into the driveway from school, the car started making a weird sound, popped hood and there seems to be an owl like fast hooting sound coming from the throttle body area.
it is only happening when at steady idle, anything above is silent and also happens when turning off engine.
and also the belt tensioner is moving around during idle, is this possibly related to the noise, maybe a bad bearing or pully somewhere??? and if that is so then could it also be the reason why my car has low voltage at idle with load?

Re: lt1 hooting noise at idle?
A loose belt tensioner will cause poor charging. The tensioner has a pulley and a spring loaded arm. Most likely the spring loaded arm (tensioner) has failed if the belt is jumping around.
As far as the "hooting", make sure your intake elbow is seated properly and that it isn't folded over on the bottom.

Re: lt1 hooting noise at idle?
i thought the sound would have been coming from the intake elbow, all i did is retighten it down... ill try remounting it tommorow... just seems weird for it to suddenly start happening...
the belt is held on tight. its just moving around which i figured ment someont was wobbling. I did just take the belt off the tensioner and alternator off,. and for some reason everytime i go to put the belt back on i loosen the screw by accident.
im remounting the elbow now. thanks for help.
