LT1 headers question

Will LT1 headers work on pre 87 sbc heads?
are the exhaust ports the same and is the bolt pattern the same?

I dont think so because LT1s have a D shaped exhaust port.

the ports are D shaped with the flat angle of the "D" on the bottom. Is the bolt pattern the same?

...yeah but Hooker part # 2231-1 states; '93-'97, Chev/Pont, 265-400, ceramic coated, Super Competition headers. Why does it say 265-400 if they only fit the LT1's? They must fit, right? Bill...

Are you using LT1 headers on a 4th gen with a gen 1 SBC in it? What's the setup?

yes im putting in a 360 sbc gen 1 into my 4th gen. just sat the engine in today no problem. Now i need some headers and was hoping if someone could tell me if they would work just the same on a gen 1 engine. I would like to get the 4th gen long tube headers because they should obviously fit no prob.

id make some cusom heders if your good w/ a welder or have them made, a freind of mine put a 355 in a 85 jaguar xj5 and he had to have some custome headers made fore it because of space.

Easiest way to check would be to get a set of each type of gasket and see how they compare against each head. If the bolt pattern (spacing) is the same and the header tubes/flanges are larger than the port on the head then the LT1 headers may work on the older style heads.

I'd say as long as the flanges are round and not a D port shape, they should work.

can any of yall remember if the headers you got for you LT1s were round, square, or "D" shaped? I got the camel hump heads straight plug and they got the oval exhaust ports. not a perfect circle but like a rounded out square shape.
