LT1 Header Bolts: Which length???

I'm getting some Stage 8 Header bolts, but need to know which length. They're going in a '96 LT1 with Pacesetter headers.

thanks!!

Re: LT1 Header Bolts: Which length???

I use 3/4" ARP's, but they don't have all the wacky locking stuff the Stage 8's do. 1" might be better for those? Hopefully someone with them will chime in..

I used the 1 inch long 12 point ARP Header bolts on mine.....work pretty good.

I have the 3/4" Stage 8 bolts. A bit of a PITA to play with though.

A good "rule of thumb" is to have at least bolt diameter plus an 1/8 inch of thread in what you are blolting into. Being aluminum I would want every thread to grab. Get the 1" length. There is approx. 7/8 of thread in the head

GET 1 INCH !!!

im not sure about pacesetters, but jethots have a very thick flange, and with the 3/4" bolts, there are only a few threads actually gripping the head, and it makes it very easy to strip.

Re: LT1 Header Bolts: Which length???

i have used 3/4" ARP on many LT1's with headers. a few installs ago i started using 1" and they definitly dont come loose near as often as the 3/4" do (no-brainer if you stop to think about it).

tried stage 8's once on a customer's car on thier insistence. those things are more of a PITA than its worth. next time i had to work on it i trashed them and went back to ARPs

Re: LT1 Header Bolts: Which length???

The owner of the shop that installed my Jet-Hots used 3/4" Stage 8's. Dumbass. They backed out. I am now using 1" Breslin Stainless. I have had no problems...

I have 1" stainless steel Breslin's. Havn't had them back out They are kind of a pain in the *** with the AS&M's with a couple of them, but I can usually retighten them all within 30 minutes.

Try the Hookers with a percy dead soft gasket. You have to run a 1 inch just to get the bolt to grab at all. At first, I thought I got 4 gaskets when I bought them.I was wrong, the gasket is just that thick.
